History of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournaments?

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, but I did a search on google as well as here on the forums and only came up with results on people's first tournaments.

Anyways...does anyone know when the very first Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament took place? I'm not talking about these early challenge matches between Helio and various judokas like Kimura or Kato, but organized jiu-jitsu tournaments that weren't made up solely of the Gracies as competitors. If anyone knows this-as well as the details (weight classes, rules, point system etc.) I'd be really grateful, as well as maybe who won. We always hear about guys like Saulo or Jacare or Marcello Garcia winning the Pan-Ams, Mundials, Abu Dhabi or whatever, but all of this HAD to have started some place, I'm curious about the history behind brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments. Thanks!

Im guessing, that Tijuca Tennis Club or something in Brazil would be it.

I believe Andre Pederneiras took credit for that. I'll see if I can find a link.

I always read about the tourneys in the 80's like the "such and such" cup or other with Rickson winning them. But I don't think a lot of it documented. The Pan ams and Mundials were started in the 90's by the IBJJF/CBJJ and they're well documented (winners) on the IBJJF website.
