Half Guard Instructionals
I've been really working on my half guard game a lot lately. Just wondering what good half-guard instructionals you guys could recommend? I already have Stephan Kestings DVD, Gustavo Machado's half/quarter guard DVD, and of course the half guard stuff on Saulo Ribeiro's sets, as well as Rodrigo Medeiros DVD set. I have Eddie Bravo's books, although his half-guard system is kind of different, and I don't really play that type of half guard game much. Are there any other major half guard instructionals that you guys would recommend?

Mastering The Rubber Guard by Eddie Bravo. There is a complete system for using the half guard in that book. Very good stuff.

Gordo's half-guard set is pretty good. You can find it here:

Diogo. Cheap, awesome, and high-powered stuff.
I just focus on half guard and escapes these days. It's a fun game to learn because half guard is SO goddamn technical and complex, particularly with the gi on. You have to know so many different games. Just the basic "get the underhook and move down" game isn't enough these days, with the brabo choke in ascendance.
Been having fun with "z" guard, half butterfly, quarter guard, deep half guard, etc.

So his "Secrets of the Half guard" is worth buying? Care to give a quick review or a link to a review? *Please*

Does the Diogo stuff really differ from the other instructionals that the TS already owns? I'd been meaning to pick up the set cause it's so cheap.
Also what is the Z guard??

Yeah, it's some wicked stuff. Diogo has some sick moves.
Z guard is just where you have your lower leg hooked, and your upper knee comes in to block his hip, pretty much like a scissors sweep position. I use it to make space to get an underhook, to remove the crossface, to attack the near arm with an armdrag, the far arm arm with a kimura, or the far leg with a kneebar. Diogo's set also shows how you can use it to grab the near pants for a sweep kind of like the foot-grab sweep except you are grabbing the near foot, not the far foot. Lots of options. It pairs well with the overhook game too.
I know some people hit triangles from that position too, but you pretty much have to post really hard off your opponent's face to create the requisite distance, which my teacher won't let us do during ordinary rolling.
