Usually, I dont even get the underhook, I just keep the lapel tight...
I have Vince's video, and he has a couple of counters, but they aren;t working too well for me.
Normally what I do is just come up with them into quarter (assuming i have teh underhook).
Any other suggestions?

Hey Arm triangle,
If this is regarding the stand cutter pass. As soon as he stands up, you must automatically shift your knees in the other direction. ( basically putting you into deep half guard ) to avoid the pass. That stand pass is one of the most effective ways to pass the half guard especially if you are going against a really tall or heavy person. I hope that helps.

I have just created another complete wrap-up of this entire thread so you can easily print it out, without flipping through the entire 51 page thread to attempt to print it, here it is:

I made a thread a while back where I was asking for DVD advice on "very deep half guard." I don't know what you call it, where you are all the under, completely wrapped around one leg.
The suggestions were for Saulo's Revolution 2 and I found Robson Moura's Fusion 2. Both have a "single leg guard" section... i assumed this was the position, but its not (at least in moura's)
A. What do you call this position?
B. Are there any dvd's or books with time dedicated to this position?

The position is called deep half guard, zankou or aesopian would be the person to ask.

Check Moura's Fusion 2 set again. There is a section of "Advanced Half Guard (bottom)", starting around technique number 10:
10. Outside half set-up
11. Outside half foot sweep
. . .
Robson uses the term "outside half" rather than "deep half" for these techniques. Good stuff here, including his detail on getting out the back door, etc. Hope this helps!
(codemonkey / zankou, feel free to correct me if I've missed anything there . . .

In my own mind, I differentiate between the regular deep hald guard (with an underhook on the leg), and this other position , where you abandon the underhook and use both arms on one leg, ballled up underneath the opponent. Maybe it is just a variation on the deep half, but in my mind it 2 totally separate positions.

Thanks

Thanks for the insight on the Gable grip. As a small guy that seems to be a really important aspect to not getting squashed and keeping your opponent off base.
