Grappling with Sticks, knives, pistol, etc.

Just wandering if anyone else out there on this forum ever grapples with weapons?

It adds a new level to your awareness and makes you think...

Doc...
Watch out for the STINKY STICK !!!

lol

No.

I'm thinking I need to get good without weapons first.

If I already have a gun, what do I need to grapple for? If you look hard you might be able to find a larger font to post with you tool.

We do it with knives all the time.

Common but, inacurate though. Consider this, especially if you are a LEO...
The average distance that a LEO generally gets involved in a shooting is 21 feet. It takes the average male (not trained) 3 seconds to run 21 feet. Can you draw your holstered gun (or pocket knife for that matter) in 3 seconds? Oftentimes it becomes an attempt to draw your weapon during a scuffle. Not too easy if not practiced (or with practice).

Also, if one practices for possible "street" encounters, it is a smart idea to alwayss assume your enemy has a weapon and grapple with them in class - concealed and not concealed.

It will totally chane how you look at your game and how you approach a grappling encounter.

sambosteve i agree. but seriously, once a knife/gun is drawn, bjj is useless.

like that only pertains to bjj. EVERYTHING is useless against a gun and knife.

Of course if a guy has a knife or gun drawn, he can have my wallet...LOL.

But, there are more scenarios than that. I certainly don't advocate fighting a guy with a gun or a knife, but, you may not have a choice. Some gym experience may help you a bit. Certainly gym experience is not the real thing, not even close but, I feel it should be done anyway. I have personally had a fight where a knife was involved and have some of my students. Neither of us are LEO but, we had little choice but to fight due to circumstances. I also have several LEO students who have had scuffles with weapons. It is very valuable to grapple with them - there are lots of drills for it. Also, it will make your no-weapon grappling better by giving you a very different awareness of issues of control

I'm a Virgo student.

I know that it stands for police, just say police. COP. Not like that crazy f*ck that asked how to choke out a LEO a while back.
