New to submission grappling

I just started with submission grappling a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it. I wrestled in college and hs so I'm not completely clueless, I can at least take people down and I do alright at defending submissions. I'm also taking up kickboxing at the same place. Anybody else here only do wrestling for a long time then try to pick up submission grappling or bjj? Hows it workin out for ya?

I'm getting the hang of it. I still get caught with stupid stuff like the occasional guillotine. There might be a tournament sometime around oct, so I may try that out.

The kickboxing is fun. It's a good workout. The place I'm at might not have the most skilled people, but I think it's a good start. Plus it's the only place in the area w/ this kind of training.

I def respect it. Its just stupid bc it feels like something i should know how to avoid. I'm getting better now though. I feel like i can control people fairly well when i get to the ground and i can take down almost everybody at my school.
