That sounds a little weird, that the gym is allowed to substitute their fighter at the last minute and the promoters are ok with that? Thats just screams set up to me.

Don't fight angry . . . be calm and collected. All the top guys in the sport don't fight w/ anger . . . I mean just check out Fedor's poker face.

Everyone wants to win but for the first fight it takes the pressure off if you just focus on the experience and less on 'winning'. Helps keep the nerves and your thoughts in perspective

So now that a few days have passed since the initial shock of the threat of being on a "hit list" has set it, I really wish everyone could have seen what a total idiot I was in my own brain about the entire situation.
In my area guys get their first fight in under a year of training. I have been training for my first fight for over two and a half years. My hardcore sparring sessions have been against guys bigger, faster, stronger, more experienced and flat out better than myself. In this training I have hurt my hands and feet, deformed my left ear, been knocked out 4times, choked out 3 times, blackened both eyes for the past 2 months straight and lost 25 lbs. Two months ago my coach didn't want me to take a fight, and the last training session we had he actually told me that I'm looking awesome (considering he spends every session telling me I'm not prepared, that is REALLY saying something).
So with all that said, WHY THE HELL would I care what someone threatens? The guy is going to be in the same weight class as me and its his first fight, two things I can't say about the guys who spent the past 2 months (or the 3 months before that with an Ammy welterweight champ I was helping prepare for his title defense) kicking my ass in preperation. Whoever this guy is, he can't be as scarey as the guys I have been training with (just for the sake that he is in my weight class).
But as soon as I got threatened I lost my mind, images of me laying in the cage with broken limbs started going through my mind. I forgot that its a cage fight, not a gang war. Someone says I'm on his "hit list" and I forget that I have already taken almost the worst that can be thrown at me. I was walking into a cage fight knowing full well what to expect, then got rattled when someone suggested that they were going to kick my ass. I get my ass kicked every day, why should I be afraid when someone THREATENS to do it?! I have no clue, but I was for about half a day. I finally thought about it for a second and I realized "a guy is threatening to beat me up in a sport that involves getting beat up... wooow. Maybe if the guy was threatening to stab me I would have room for concern."
So this threat was awesome in the end. It totally put things in perspective and I am WAY MORE ready for the fight now.

and oh by the way. My cornerman was going to work on getting the fight changed because he didn't want me involved in the situation, and I was just going to sit a back and take whoever came to me. But... yaknow... If I already got an opponent, why let anyone change it? So I texted him saying "I dont think you should try to change the fight." He then called me back, and I think deep down he F'ing loved it that I said that.
The guy has left me more comments. I was very nice last time I replied with total class, showing him respect and giving him and his fighters my best wishes. He responded by telling me to save it because my "existance is desprespect" to him (mind you we have never met or spoken or anything). I once again showed him the same respect and class I would show anyone in martial arts or in everyday life (but especially a BJJ blackbelt). I am not going to reply to him any more though, the fight is 27 days away, its time to think more about me and less about him.

As said before, you didn't change the opponent, they did, so you're in no way obliged to accept the fight.

Sounds like this is an Amatuer event and you would be suprised at how little info is given sometimes at amatuer shows. Your best bet is to get with a show that has a reputable match maker. Sometimes that is the best you can ask for if you want to fight. I put on Amatuer and pro shows and sometimes in the amatuer ones you just can't get the info or opponent until later than usual. You get a list of fighters who want to fight, you divide them up by weight and skill level and go from there....
But like i said, its the fighters choice and i have a totally different outlook when i have my managers hat on and am negotiating for one of my fighters. I want all the info i can get and i want it early!

Good! Kill HIM with kindness, not so much for his student that you get in the cage with!! Im glad to see a fire has been lit under your ass a little in regards to MMA! Getting in the right mind set is important, good luck, have fun and be humble in your post fight victory celebration and interview!
Edit* But you might want to thank the opposing coach for lighting that fire......
