So this is the worst feeling in the world, being threatened for things you had no part of. I just moved from out of state a few months ago and I was looking to get my first MMA fight. I had it all set up but I was warned (from my coach across the state) that the guys I started training with down here in my town (that I am representing at the fight) had a falling out with their old team and there could be some shenanigans going down.
Well I check my youtube account today and I was told by my main training partner's old coach (a BJJ black belt) that I am #1 target on his hit list. I then go check the promotion's web site and see that I now have fight with one of his fighters. Now I don't care who I face, I dont even know what this guy looks like. If I had been put up against him to start with or even before these comments came out I also wouldn't have thought anything of it.
I called up my training partner and tell him about it and he says to me "yeah we are getting the fight changed, he is going to set you up big time."
I responded to him (the coach), and I stayed classy showing respect to him and his fighters (as I show to everyone who trains MMA or any martial art), but also said that I didn't get into MMA to be part of these antics. I am so angry I can't see straight. Now instead of going into my first fight with no pressure there is going to be this cloud hanging over me. Its like Karate Kid but sooooo much more stupid.
I hope I am a better fighter when I am angry though.
This pressure can be a good thing for you. Are you telling me that prior to this "beef" or whatever, you were lackadaisical about whether you win or lose? If you're going out to fight it should be to win regardless. Easy for me to say of course, since I do not fight but ideally that's how you should be thinking.
Don't fight angry . . . be calm and collected. All the top guys in the sport don't fight w/ anger . . . I mean just check out Fedor's poker face.

Let your coach handle this. If the guy they are setting you up against is some sort of ninja killer with a zillion fights and you are a beginner most commissions will not sanction it.
Anyways, just relax and train. Do some yoga or something. Clear your mind of all this nonsense.

Opponent's coach is probably hoping you get either so pissed that you load up on strikes excessively, overly telegraph your attacks or gas prematurely.... or so intimidated that you attack less. This is all part of their gameplan.
Make it fail

first fight??? that could be interesting. The promoter (commission?) shouldn't allow a experienced fighter to go against a rookie.
That said, one of my buddies had his first fight against a guy that was 14-0, totally kicked his ass, lost on points but sent the guy to the emergency room.
enjoy.

LoL thanks esila that actually calmed me down alot. backyard_champ I would tell you the organization and/or the area I'm fighting in but I don't want to bring attention to it. I know people from their team are on Sherdog and I dont want to start anything big.
And fiftysvn. I do care if I win or lose, of course I'm going for the win every time. But for me, MMA is alot different than it is for others. I got into MMA to lose weight, and I have lost 150 lbs. MMA is more like golf than anything else, a game against myself. I always have stayed humble and nice and the fact that win or lose is secondary to the fact that I gave my everything in the battle. Even though it was combat, it was still a sport so no anger ever entered into it. Now it has and I don't appreciate it very much (especially considering its my first fight ever).

All I was expecting was to face someone who has been training for roughly the same amount of time as I have. The other guys record is 0-0, but I have no idea how long he has been training. For my first fight all I wanted was someone to face, not some sort of blood feud that I was sparked when I lived half way across the United States.
