Got My Blue Tonight (Kinda long read)

Hey guys, I got my blue belt tonight. Im not posting this to get all kinds of congratulations or whatever, its just a pretty big deal for me and I want some feedback about how your guys experience was when you got yours or a higher belt or if you are going to be getting yours soon. It was so rough man. We just did like an hour of just going over techniques and demonstrating and stuff, and after that me and the two other guys who were getting it had to roll for 20 minutes from all different positions with a new parter ever 1-2 minutes. It was so hard. At first we were on our feet. Then we were on our backs with a guy in our guard. Then a guy in our guard but we had one hand holding our belt so we could only use one hand. Then started from side. Then we started with a guy behind us with hooks in. Then north/south, and finally 2 on 1. It was ridiculous, toughest thing I have ever done. I was kinda disappointed because I didnt do much but I only got submitted a few times, and I never just gave up and quit. I was really happy when I got my belt. My coach said I was the yougest person he's ever given a blue to, and that it was cool because when he started there were no teenage blue belts (Im 16). And finally, to truly become a blue belt, we got whipped. My coach told us a while back that it was a fading tradition and its not really gonna be practiced that much but I have participated in whipping other people when they got their belts so I told him flat out that I wanted to get whipped too. It didnt take too much negotiation haha. It hurt so bad. He wet his belt, along with all the guys with 3 stripes on their white belts. They stood in two lines facing eachother and they each got one swing at the chest and one on the back. It hurt so bad, I cant even describe it. I started with my hands over my head but by the time I got down to the end of the line I could barely hold them up. I didnt bleed but I got some nice marks (Pics to follow in prolly a week or so haha). Did any of you guys get this when you became blues? I know it sounds like a barbaric thing, but it really is something that I think should happen. Its a big accomplishment and what better way to prove that you earned it than being whipped? haha. Now Im gonna go full steam ahead for my purple, which is atleast a few years away.

Ive been training 8-9 months, I started in the beginning of november, so if you count november 9 months. I got whipped pretty bad, but the dude before me got it worse, he definitely looked worse than I did anyway, but it might just be because his skin is more sensitive or something, I dont know. I think I even caught one across the lip, I noticed afterwards I got a straight line running down the middle of my lip. Oh well, good times haha.

Damn man, a blue in 9 months is no small feat, especially at 16. I started when I was 16 and I got my blue when I was 18.

No whippings involved though.

Ive done some competitions and got first in one and second in the other. Going out and doing that had alot to do with me moving along so quickly I think. My coach likes to see when guys go out and put it on the line to see what they are made of.
