Let me ask you this. Have you ever trained in a gi? Under a competent instructor?

Thought so.

well miss cleo, I have trained GI under a competent instructor and left it. I only want to compete no-gi and want to fight MMA , I felt the element the Gi put me in was something different than the element id be fighting in.

"thought so" what a joke..

only person id be willing to use the gi under is JJ machado or somebody of equal calibre. because guys with grappling knowledge such as that you will become great under regardless of whether its gi or no-gi.

way to edit in that last paragraph there bro.

"only person id be willing to use the gi under is JJ machado or somebody of equal calibre. because guys with grappling knowledge such as that you will become great under regardless of whether its gi or no-gi."

I now don't consider anything you've said valid. You can learn from anybody who is better than you.

I understand that this thread is asking the relevance of gi fighting for MMA. However, don't overlook the importance of gi fighting for self defense.

It is a regular statement at our school, "I don't think anyone on the street will attack me with a gi."

I answer *with sarcasm* "I know. People usually wear Speedos or board shorts when they attack you."

From the UG, about Black House (just playing Devil's advocate)

Okay, here are the details.
Black House is near, not in, Barra. The actual neighborhood is Recreio.

It takes up the first floor of a massive 3 story health club called XGym.

It has two teams, both called Black House Team. One is MMA, the other BJJ. The MMA guys train NoGi and Muay Thai separately, and combined as MMA. They also (ARE YOU LISTENING???) train GI BJJ 3 times per week with Sylvio Behring. The GI BJJ, obviously, trains in the gi everyday.

The founders are Sylvio Behring and Carlos Barreto--two legends of the game. The rest came a bit later. The rest who are there every day are both Nogeiras, Nino, Anderson Silva, Tiago Tavares. Other famous guys from other teams evidently are there on and off throughout the week.

The clincher: $100 per month for training PLUS a dorm room (my student said the rooms were crappy but clean/safe).

I can certainly ask him more specific questions if you have them.

John

I now dont think you have credible reading comprihension. I never said you cant learn from anybody better than yourself

what I did say is that JJ machado and people of equal calibre are so good, that they are the only exception id make to training GI.

I dont think it was that hard to understand

and if you'd give me a minute before quoting me, you wouldnt have that problem of me adding in that paragraph. that is why the edit button is there

Well, I have to ask you this:

Why are you training with Bravo if you want to have great JJ for MMA?

because his style is geared twards MMA. He'll often drill a technique and give you options if your opponent is punching you while you are attempting the technique.

because of his proficiency with rubberguard. RG has so much potential in MMA it is ridiculous. When more guys start getting good at this in using it in the cage, its gonna be great.

he is all no-gi, lots of pro-fighters train regularly there and many famous fighters stop by his class(Ricco, Hendo, Karo, etc).

a ton of great competition - there are so many skilled guys at legends from multiple grappling background that will MAKE you good.

Eddie is a JJ machado blackbelt and only charges 105 a month for unlimited lessons

*edit- Eddie also has connects w/ the UFC. how do you think tait got onto TUF season 3?(I think it was 3, nomatter)

'nuff said

I have to say, personally I'm not a fan of using RG as a main tactic, but I use it (in other words i pull my own foot) for setting up certain subs/sweeps.

Other than that, that all sounds pretty good. I can tell you my academy charges more than that, does that 105 include the MMA/MT/etc. available at Legends?
