First rolling session tonight
Ok, so I just got back from my first session of rolling in submission grappling, and I haven't learned much, a few reversals, and a key lock, arm bar and kimura from side mount. So we just rolled from side mount to get in to it a little bit. Now, here comes the questions...
1) My instructor used me to show how to perform the key lock and kimura (go figure), and they hurt an INCREDIBLE amount. Now, I'm assuming the answer will be 'nothing', but I have to ask. Are there any exercises/stretches that can help with the pain from those shoulder locks?
2) Does any body else get INSANE headaches after grappling? While I'm doing it, my adrenaline is pumping quite a bit, so I never feel it, but after the class, my head starts pounding and I feel a little dizzy. Any body else get this?
No, I'm not out of shape in any way, so the headaches/dizziness wouldn't be from that.

1/ Generally strengthening your shoulders with resistance excercise will increase your ability to stop getting cranked, and obviously stretching reguarly will help too. Just training in grappling reguarly will help you strengthen and stretch these areas, but extra training always helps. Do some yoga/pilates and that will help a lot on both counts.
2/ You might think you're in great shape, and maybe in terms of running or swimming or something you are, but being in shape in terms of grappling is entirely different. I've had triathletes train with us that gas after 2 min, but i can do a 2 hours class with 5 rolls at the end of it. Having said that im ashit at swimming, because i have no technique which causes me to use more energy than i should. the same goes for grappling Your body just gradually adjusts to this type of excerise. If you train really hard its normal to feel a bit dizzy or liek you need to puke, but ive never had really bad headaches personally.

I don't get headaches, but I do get what I like to call a grappling high where I feel a little buzzed after a hard work out. Prolly just endorphins or a lack of oxygen.

It has happened the past 3 weeks, where on my way home the headache will start. Usually they last about an hour, I take a few aleves and now I'm completely fine.
I don't know, maybe the conditioning as far as grappling goes needs to increase, but I feel fine during the class, and this will usually happen towards the end of the class, which made me think it wasn't my 'grappling conditioning'. Are there any exercises I can do to increase the grappling conditioning, or is the only way just to grapple?

You haven't learned much??? That's plenty right there...lol
Anyways, just remember to always stretch before and after you roll. Flexibility plays a big role in grappling. Tapout if it hurts, you'll only get hurt if you don't (I'm assuming you know this already)
When I first started, I didn't get any "headaches" so I guess i'm lucky, but I'm pretty sure it'll go away after a few weeks, you just gotta get used to grappling. Workout, do cardio and just keep rolling. Keep it consistent and you'll be good.
Good luck and never quit.

Haha, well all the stuff my instructor tells me he wants to teach us, it seems like not that much lol. Yea, I guess it's more getting used to it than any thing else. It's just very wierd because it has never happened to me in any other sport I played.
We are going to start Judo throws soon, as well, oh man, I can't wait for that!

Drink more water/gatorade/endorox etc. You can get headaches after a workout b/c of dehydration.
Take some alieve b4 your workout
Stop banging your head into the mat in anger when you get tapped
Get an MRI 'casue you might have a tumor
Tap b4 you pass out, getting choked unconscious can give you a headache
Just a guess or two

^^^^
The new av is the chick I picked up at the gym I lift at . . .I had to talk to her she was doing front squats, OHS, and power cleans. Best ass in the place. Plus she thought I was cute. And she is like 4 inches taller than me which is fucking HOT!!!
As soon as I get her more comfortable I'm going to get some real pics, i.e. not taken with my cell.

I never drink water/gatorade or anything while I am at grappling/kickboxing.
Maybe I'll try taking aleves before.
I never got tapped in my first roll, but the kid was just as new as I was
I don't think I have a tumor
I never got tapped
And that chick is banging, I lift at Bally's, so it's mostly 80 year old woman, which is a little too old for me.
