Feitosa's mat burn at ADCC 2005 (pic, gross)

Just recently, my instructor Eduardo de Lima got me his photos from when he went to ADCC 2005 to support the Gracie Barra competitors. You can see them all here. But one photo I wanted to point out in particular was the one he took of Marcio Feitosa's feet after the tournament. I had heard that the ADCC mats were really rough, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw this:

I had a very similar type of mat burn on my right foot instep about 2 years ago. I was new at grappling and shot in while dragging my foot right across the mat and it burned like hell. It took a full 2 weeks to heal, even with using Neosporen and shit.

Those mats were crap.
If you're gonna have pro athletes who make a living out of their being fit to train you'd better have good mats.

if they don't clean mats between matches, they should atleast do blood tests before. this is playing with fire...
