Escape the half guard
So I have issues getting out of a tight half guard. Is the usual escape to put weight on the face area, and then lift the leg with other leg helping?
Then there's the other half guard, where the guy is essentially grapevining your other foot and that makes it too tight to get out.
Any techniques u guys can share?
Thanks

the one i always use, and most of the time with great success goes something like this:
lets say your right leg is caught in his halfguard. as soon as you get there, you switch your base, meaning you turn towards his legs and slide your left knee to his hips.
make sure your left shin is at right angles with his body, so you don't get swept.
when you have the left leg by his hip, lift your right knee, just post on your right foot. so basically your right knee should point straight up.
at this point, he's already fucked. you keeping all your weight on him and facing his legs kills his underhook game completely, and his legs are just hanging on your thigh, which is lifted off the ground. all you have to do now is push his left knee off of your right thigh and pull your right leg out.
focus on keeping your weight on him at all times, or you'll get swept. but after doing it a few times you'll see its very high %. you also get to lock a kimura from there before you begin to pass alot.
i wish i had any photos of this, hopefully you understand.

I love this half guard pass, the problem I have with it are guys who push on your back and try to make you go far down their body. So when you do pass they are already close to being able to pull butterfly, what do you do to deal with this?

switch passes. when i'm that far down, i'll gable grip my hands to keep their knees together and work to hugging their legs tight. from there, i sprawl my trapped leg, effectively blowing their half guard. from there work into side control.

If it's in gi make sure you take his jacket out and trap one of his arms.
