Did Nino invent the gogoplata?
Found this in a book called "Judo on the Ground: The Oda Method" by E.J. Harrison, written in 1954.
Not saying that Nino copied the technique then claimed to have invented it. But it's obviously existed in some form for an unknown length of time.

Mabe he learned it from a Judoka. Or mabe he reinvented it himself. Rolling around in Newaza all the time, experimenting and constantly trying different things, is gonna lead to figuring out different moves. There's only so many ways the body can bend/constrict. He deffinately didn't invent it. "Kagato Jime" has been used in Judo for a long time. But that doesn't necessarily mean Nino copied it either.

What's funny about the first one is that he has the cross collar choke...but he added his leg in there too.

Do I detect a slight need to "prove judo" to the BJJers? Who really cares who "invented" it first.
Judo isnt the source of all ground and standing techniques either - there is always someone else who "came before" ... right back to the first caveman who seoi-nage'd then kimura'd his cavemate for stealing his portion of the last wooly mammoth.
I dont think any BJJer would claim to have "invented" the groundfighting style - they generally all give credit to Maeda for introducing it.
The truth is, judo moved away from much of the ground techniques and BJJ took it up and ran with it (or should that be rolled with it? LOL) Now they are doing well with it- against many judoka, leading to a bit of renewed interest in the "old stuff" from judoka and others.
But I fail to see what regurgitating some old text of a tech I sincerely doubt any pure judo club (excluding the few Kosen judo clubs left) has ever used since the text was published and posting it here with a "See...! See...! It's ju8st judo - BJJ didnt invent NUFFIN, it's all just judo, biatches"
Dont take it the wrong way - I'm a "comrade in arms" - I'm a judoka not a BJJer. But I've learned to not give a rats arse about "BJJ is just judo newaza" debates and just accept BJJers are ground specialists, employ a greater range of well-taught and well-drilled ground techniques (regardless of the origin of the tech) and that a judoka can benefit greatly from training with an learning from BJJers (and of course - vice versa).
I can think of no better style to cross-train in to improve my judo.

The Greeks did - way back in the day.
the Chinese were to busy trying to act like animals and dance around
the Japanese were making swords, and practicing shooting arrows from horseback.
The Brazilians were still savages in the rain forests taking psychadelic drugs, and piercing their face with sticks.

Jiu-jitsu has always been there, when it was outlawed, the brought back a part of it so there could be some sport activity and called it Judo.
"There is nothing new under the sun" King Solomon
Nino and Roleta were the first to use it with effectiveness in Brazilian Comp. Its probably invented by the Greeks.
