defense vs. omaplata

I I have been caught in this submission a few times now. I now know that I can use the spin defense and will try. But I was also wondering if this counter may work- and what flaws it may have:

If I am in my opponents guard and he brings his right leg over my left shoulder- what if I were to use my right hand to push that leg down towards his chest before he can sit up by my side? I know with my poor flexibility if someone did that to me I may have to tap. could this be a possible sub counter?

Just to be clear- I mean once the shin is over my head, I would keep pushing his leg in the direction it is going past the end range of his flexibility (towards his own chest)

Thanks- any other Omaplato defenses are appreciated as well.

Doesn't sound to me like that counter would work.

there are a few things you can do that i know of:
1. walk around th head, or jump over

2. tripod on your head, and shoot the far leg under you and over him, gives you teh armbar (requires some dexterity, but i have done it, and im not real flexible)

3. try to roll into a triangle, requires you to roll halfway, and then twist. i havent done this, but i have seen it done.

oh and your defense sounds like your giving him a prone armbar by forcing his foot in front of you face, causeing him to roll his hips over

If you did that and his hips were already swinging out than you are simply helping him your head down to trap that arm tigher.
If anything posture up when he starts to throw that leg around and prevent him from getting it across your face.
My favorite counter is hard to explain but when he throws the leg over push your hips into his and roll over your butt and because his leg is tied up with your arm his hips follow over top your hips and you land in a top position.

it's an effective counter, but takes practice and can be very difficult for certain body-types to pull off

quick tip for those of us who are not super flexible or dont have armlegs. use your near knee on opponent's hip stomach to help open up space to slip your foot through
