chaining submissions/submission combinations

How many people on this board/forum have made it a point to develop their submission game to the point where they can effectively apply a submission, as well as chain together a series of them if your opp is able to effectively defend or escape.

Or how many of the people on the board have gotten to the point where they can effectively through combinations of submissions.

Being that i am just now able to eff apply subs, i have not really developed the all round game to mix up submissions if and when i miss or transition to another sub if the first one is countered or defended.

is chaining or throwing submission combos looked up favorably in grappling or is it a matter of just being able to eff apply a sub, and get the tap or if u miss, regain position and then try another.

I know in standup when u throw a combo u pretty much throw to land them all; but understand you won't land all the shots. But if u throw alot of crisp hard, various shots you have a better chance of catching and finishing/hurting an opp.

I have a few combos only like 3 that i can do well. My fave is a kimura they tuck their arm in go for a triangle into armbar as with all things sometimes it works sometimes not

Personally, I do nothing but chain. I always do a weak sub/attempt that isn't secure, then as soon as they easily escape from it the only way they know how, I switch to my real sub (usually a triangle or armbar). Works wonders. Especially when you know exactly how they need to move to escape a sloppy armbar or such, then counter them accordingly. It's like playing chess against a n00b who always takes the open piece without looking at what he just got himself into. Short feints and chains are essential to any higher level BJJ practitioners.

favorite combo: sloppy armbar to triangle, it's just fun

Long combo, I would really pay to see the frustration on your opponents face if he had to go through 2 cycles of that. You'd win by exhausting your opponent to death. ^_^b' props

thanks for the responses, is the ability to effectively throw combinations or submissions or chain submissions what seperates the better grapplers from the average ones; is there a diff between the quality of submission chaining/combinations.

i know in standup there is a diff in the quality of striking combinations, is there the same in grappling or is it just a matter of making the attempt.

I'm sure it helps that's for sure. The other thing is timing and capitalizing on transition opportunities.

I don't think you can have a great grasp on chain subs without years of live grappling/matches/drilling. It is more of a feeling than something you practice, this is because chain sub comes from the reactions of your opponent. Thus making it hard to practice the anticipations of your opponent, although some sub chains/combos can be pretty apparent. ie, triangle to arm bar transition
