I think that video is from 95 and I have read that he started judo in 95 so he couldn't have been a black belt by then

That video is what made him become a Judo BB. Though it hasn't done much to stop him from getting choked out.

i think in time judo will become more available to judo practitioners. but i think judo still needs to evolve to the demands of the "mma crowd". as far as i know, i've never seen a no-gi judo tournaments. and the instructors will have to want to mold classes for mma. i take classes at yamasaki's and he does no gi throws and stuff from time to time but i've also been to schools where they refuse to do that.

Neil adams nogi

Ive just filmed a number of instructional videos with Judo legend Neil Adams, all based on NoGi adaptations of Judo techniques.

I was amazed while filming, how many techniques Neil showed that were direct attacks on some of the most basic 'stances', 'positions' and the general way most MMA training has taught us to 'base' while in the clinch or going for wrestling or BJJ takedowns.
Many of the techniques that Neil showed such as foot-sweeps, foot-trapping etc have just been overlooked by most MMA systems these days!

I think we will probably see a resurge in 'some' Judo techniques being popularized in the MMA 'general syllabus' that gets taught. Certainly is allot of effective techniques in Judo that work perfectly well without the gi that we have overlooked for a long time now...

be sure to post that or where we can get it ASAP!

some more background? you just asked Neil how he would do without the Gi or has he done some wrestling? Has he been sought after by MMA/BJJ schools in the UK? I kinda know that wrestling isn't big in the UK so...

I think mostly the Japanese or Asian promotions have featured many fighters with Judo backgrounds, Japan being mroe obvious.

I think its only here in the U.S. that we rarely see those fighters. But im betting as we get more Europeans, especially Russians or fighters from the former Soviet Union we will start to hear abotu fighters with Juod/Sambo/freestyle/greco roman backgrounds.

we see more and more judo-ish takedowns from non judokas now so it has gotten a foot in

the clinch game will change for sure
