Blue Belt Promotion Story...(a bit long)

So, tonight I roll in to class and we go through the warmups. Our instructor says we have some business to take care of before class gets going and he instructs myself and one other student to take our Gi jackets and rashguards off. I'm excited because I know this means I'm getting my blue. I've been training for about a year and nine months but running the gauntlet sucks. So, we both run the gauntlet and get lashed up real nice and good.

I thought that was it and I'd be off the hook when a couple of the old timers say that the new blues should also have to roll with everyone in the class because that's what they had to do. I'm thinking oh crap because there are ~15 guys in class and I know I'm going to be murdered by the end. Well, a few guys into the rolling, we start doing stand up. I'm going against a guy who is really decent wrestler and just won a local tournament a couple of months ago. I've been training takedowns from Karo's DVD and I'm feeling really good about myself because I get a couple of takedowns on the guy. And then it happened - bam! Dude lands a nice Tsuri Goshi throw and I land square on my shoulder. I feel it pop. I'm exhausted. The guys in the club are yelling at me to keep going and stop resting. My pride is welling up in me and I don't want it to look like I'm faking an injury to get out of the rolling. I try to extend my arm and the pain is extreme. I tell the instructor I think I'm injured and he goes to the hospital with me.

In then end, I came home with a blue belt and a separated shoulder. Hurts bad but I got some good pain meds and my blue. I just hope I won't be out too long.

Congratulations on the blue! I loved that feeling.

Did you actually run the gauntlet or did you walk it? Also, that's pretty mean that they whipped you first, then made you roll. lol, it doesn't hurt too bad once you've rolled for (what seems like) hours.

A real blue belt would have walked it off.

Look at it this way.....now you have a few weeks to clear your head so you can come back fresh and ready to defend your blue.

Walked the gauntlet TWICE and then had to roll. I'm sore as hell this morning.

Also, the ER doctor questioned me a lot because my body was so beat up from walking the gauntlet. She asked me, "did you get jumped and beat up?"
