Codemonkey or Alphamale are the guys to ask about training under daniel lima.. unfortunatly i only train under one of his students and see daniel once a month. The top link seems to be more relevant.

Basicly from brisbane south all the way along the coastline around to perth their seems to be bjj blackbelts ( I think), but any further north for brissie or perth and you'll struggle to find a good bjj gym (with one or two exceptions).

My pick would be the goldcoast!

If by culinary you mean Hungry Jack's or a greasy fisho possibly attached to a senior citizen's centre, then Newcastle is definitely your best bet.

Yeah i train under Daniel directly... occassionally he is out and about and has a student take the class, but generally he trains us directly... He has been in sydney the past week so one of the students (black belt) marcelo took the class.
We have a couple of regular purple belts and a bunch of blues (maybe 8-10 regulars) and the rest white belts, our 2 brown belts have left (i think back to brazil).

I like daniel's style, although we train GI, Daniel will occasionally add details showing his MMA experience (keeping yourself safe from strikes). The thing i love most about fight club is the close-knit group of guys that train there, it is a really friendly atmosphere

I train at Ben Halls Carlson Gracie BJJ.. I like it!
My advice is to go on a holiday if you can afford it, have a look around and see what you like.

Ok champ heres the scoop on fight club/five rings and all the rest.

Fight club is the name of Daniel Lima's team, and includes gyms in Brazil and Europe as well as ours here in Oz. So basically all daniel's intruction is done under the FC banner.
We used to train BJJ in the same gym as the Kickboxers (5 rings) but eventually built a BJJ specific gym directly next door to 5 rings. So we were associated with 5 rings but no longer training directly in that gym.

since then, 5 rings has recently moved due to them tearing down the site, and we at Fc will be doing the same, probably to another location within a few minutes drive of the old location. Daniel also teaches at Ashmore at the International College of Martial Arts during the days, as well as giving seminars all over the shop, so hopefully that clear up the mulitple addresses for you. i actually train with him at both locations, and in general the training is a little more intense at FC than the college, but good in both places.

Daniel personally teaches around 90% of the classes here on the gold coast, and only misses class if he's elsewhere for a seminar or a fight. He's the only Aussie (bron in brazil but now a citizen) ranked top 10 in MMA in the world in any weight class (he's 135 lbs). Dont have the link handy but you can see a HL i did for him at dailymotion.com (search for lil devil or daniel lima).

We primarily train in the Gi at FC, however as CM said daniel tends to teach really practical positions and gives you options for no gi as well. We have open mat sessions too where we can train with or without the gi and also help roll with guys who have MMA fights coming up.

We're not of of the biggest Bjj clubs in Aus, compared to John Will of Elvis' gym for example, however the quality or training is at least as good as anywhere else in Australia for BJJ. We have a lot of ex pats form Brazil from places like de la riva, gracie barra and other Marcus Aurelio's gym so there lots of good guys to roll with of all levels (on the GC we have 3 blacks, 3 browns, about 7 purples, probably 10 blues plus lots of whites). For comparison at the last pan pacific titles we sent 14 guys/girls and came back with 14 gold and 21 medals overall, so we certainly do pretty well for the number of guys we have. Best of all as CM said, we're all tight and friendly, and have a good mix of hard training and good times.

As for the gold coast on the whole, you can read my summary of places in australia as compared to the Gc here:

Australia- how hard is it

If you decide to go elsewhere there are other great gyms such as IMA, S-P, Penrith elite, Mach 1 etc so ask again then, but from persoanl experience i'd certainly recommend the GC and Fight Club specifically.
