Doesn't John D' Oli-something train at Rickson's? He probably has more info. And Zankou is a purple belt at John Machado's, since he submits me with armbars every 2 minutes I roll with him.

However, circumstances may prevent me from attending. I get around by catching bus so I cant go too far.
In that case, perhaps you could help me out with a question.

I'm thinking about doing a trip to the US next year, which would almost certainly include LA (as I have a friend there), probably focusing on California (e.g., San Francisco, LA, San Diego, or something like that). I'd also like to get some training in, but I keep being told that public transport in the US - if it isn't New York or Chicago - is terrible. I don't drive, so I'd be relying on buses. As it sounds like you're in the same situation, how difficult was it to get to Hollywood BJJ (or any other BJJ clubs you've tried out/heard of in LA) by bus?

To the TS. Since you are only there for 2 months, I guess work or college related, maybe they cut you a deal.

If they know you will only be there for a limited time, it would be better for them then not having your business at all.

Definitely check out Rickson's school. It's probably a little pricey, but it's the closest bjj gym to UCLA...not more than 2 miles away.

My friend Lucas Pires just started teaching the Jiu Jitsu class at Soneca Martial Arts. It is located on Wilshire and should be pretty close to you. Lucas is a blackbelt under Fabricio Werdum. Really good guy and instructor. I have put the link below with the address. The Jiu Jitsu classes are not yet on the website because he just started teaching there last week. I think classe are m-f starting at 6:30.

I can vouch for that. Lucas Pires is the real deal. Definitely check him out, you will be glad you did. Can't say enough good things about him.

look at it this way - by asking there at the school what are you losing?

the potential for a gain is there.. so i would give it a shot.

I agree that Rickson's school is the closest to UCLA. Buses go right by UCLA and Rickson's place (it's about 2 miles away) so that might work for you.

You can call the school or check out Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu for more info. I don't think they'd take you up on the offer to teach boxing, however. The school is gi oriented with some no gi classes, but there is no boxing class.

Woah. I live like 4 blocks from Rickson's and 3 from Soneca. I didn't know they have a bjj program now. Seems like a crowded place to start teaching!
