And omo-plata (sankaku-garami) is of course allowed also. And there isn't a judge who would see whether the pressure is on the elbow or on the shoulder, the same thing with ude-garami - just twist the arm and make your opponent tap.
My post is now edited with sarcasm tags

May someone explaint to me the apparent disconnect?

I practice BJJ and intend to compete in Judo so the above would be useful to me.

I completely disagree. Done correctly ude garami is almost entirely on the elblow and barely on the shoulder at all. Kimura broke Helio's arm- he didnt dislocate his shoulder.

Since when did you contribute anything other than to brag how great your BJJ is, and why its uneccsary to learn Judo if you do wrestling

Sankaku garami (omo-plata) is common in international competitions (which are refereed by the most experience refs in the world), so I suspect the IJF considers them, like ude garmai (the Kimura) as elbow locks. In fact, a member of our national judo team was teaching it at a seminar for juniors ... however, I've seen inexperienced refs call it a penalty, so you have to be careful at local tournaments.

If the lock is sunk in, your opponent shouldn't be able to lift you. If he's lifting you, then you haven't got it, so you haven't really lost anything when the ref breaks it up (and it saves you a potential neck injury).

well, I for one and many others think promoting cross training is a good thing.. instead of being stuck on believing that one art is a supreme art. achem (you on judo)

Not only his arm! 21 ribs, the ankles, the hip and the neck. And of course "that" technique usually breaks the elbow, but after the wrist and the pinky...

First off, I never said that MY BJJ is great did I? NOPE. How many times have I bragged about MY BJJ? I havent

And second, Im not stuck on one art being the most well rounded for grappling am i? That would be you on Judo, troll.

And third, any threads started by Sambo234 or I, it means we dont want you posting in them, k? Because you are USELESS when it comes to being serious about pretty much any thread on the grappling forum and are nothing but a smart ass/troll. The only time you are serious is when you talk about your training partners' grappling credentials or your "extensive combat background"

We dont want your input in our threads k? Now fuck off.
