BJJ for Beginners question
Hi,
I really want to start training BJJ, I do have one concern however, I think I am too old, I turned 27 last week... I have been a big MMA far over the last five years and love the sport and was always wanted to try BJJ, however I have been sick the last couple of years but I have an op coming up in Nov and should be 100% by Jan 09. Both my brothers are doing boxing, kick boxing, one has been in Thailand improving his muay thai, but I think BJJ is more techinical and I really want to start learning.
Any comment on my age issue?

27 isn't old bro...theres a 63 year old that attends BJJ and taps younger kids out.

I'm 32 and started when I was 31. There are plenty of guys older then me in my gym. One of our best guys started when he was like 40. My instructor is like 42.

You are not too old.
Go take your first class, and you will see for yourself.

Hey,
I'm 28 and started in Aug of this year. I talked to a few friends that have fought in the past. One is 2-1 in kickboxing matches and trained MMA. The other has stopped fighting but went 40-3 in karate matches (point scoring). When I talked about my age they both laughed. "Your never too old" was the response.
At my gym, I told the instructors I want to fight by the time I'm 30. That's a year and a half. I arbitrarily picked this sport because I love to compete and its the only thing left where the contenders peak and even compete up to middle age! Both my friends started fighting less than a year after training. Not sure if I am to that level, but having a goal helps me measure progress.
Besides, age should only be a question for competing, not for training. Training is fun.

I'm not a BJJ practitioner, but I started Judo when I was 26 and I don't feel old. I live near a college so most of the people are younger than me, but only by a few years. Like the poster above said, Just do It.
