BJJ Beginner instructionals

Im six months into BJJ and am very happy with how fast im getting the hang of things. Im currently reading the Essential guard which has been very helpful, and am looking for some beginner instructional DVDs and books to look into afterwards. Any advice would be much appreciated. Im also looking into getting some type of Martial art yoga DVD.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Lots of different perspectives on this...here is mine.

Keep in mind that I have all 4 Marcelo Garcia volumes, Series 1 and 2 of Saulor Ribeiro, Demian Maia's set, Drysdale's set, Matt Sera's set, Cesar's Gracie Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced set, several other DVDs, and several books.

In my opinion the best beginner/white belt DVD set is the Cesar Gracie set. IMHO, it sets the basics well, and Cesar has the best english (only a slight accent) of the Gracies. This is is Basic/Intermediate/Advanced Gi set. I think he also has a No Gi set, which I have not seen. I also think that the Matt Serra set (no gi) is pretty good, if you can get your hands on it. Obviously the Ribeiro and Garcia tapes have some great set, but really is a blue belt+ level we are talking about here. As far as books, I really like Beneville's Guard and Passing the Guard books. The level of detail is great and they are good reads.

i have just been watching John Will & David Meyers Grappling Masterclass Curriculum, and i must say it is the most basic beginner instructional i have ever seen, good quality, some technical things i don't like, but that's personal preference. Starting with the absolute basics like showing the various positions and describing them, like this is the guard, this is the mount, etc.

For beginners, considering that you will more than likely be spending the majority of your roll time defending and attempting to counter submission attempts and escape bad positions, I highly recommend Gustavo Machado's "Great Escapes and Submissions". It has a plethora of information on escaping most basic submissions and getting out of bad situations.

Seconded. Great instructional.

The longer you survive, the more you can do!

I also recommend Demian Maia's and Saulo's. They present concepts that are very valuable, and are worth learning and spending time with.

Am I the only one who starts uncontrollable laughing everytime Maia pronounces "triangle"?

I'm also a white belt about 5 months in. I've been watching the free Rowan Cunningham instructional videos at www.learnbjjtechniques.com and bringing what I learn to class. It has definitely improved my game quickly studying the videos when I'm out of the gym.

Hope this helps.
