@ dreadedothrside

In regards to "The Karate School on 111th". Are you talking about the place that opened up a few years ago just east of Kedzie on 111th?

@ everyone

So there are three that seem to be in reasonable reach of my house.

1) BJJ Southside Home Christian Uflacker
2) Gracie Barra Countryside Pablo X
3) Brujo Jiu-Jitsu Academy Mike Rose / Leo Valdes / Thomas M. Rozdzynski

Does anyone have any experince and or suggestions as to which one might be the better of the bunch? Which one of the instructors is more accomplished and respected? It seems like Christian has made a name for himself considering how young he is. Any advice would be great guys

Regards

Chad

Christian used to teach at Gracie Barra country side but moved to his own school. Pablo at GB counryside is a purple belt only(nothing wrong with that, but he charges a lot)

Yes I was. Also, I've met Mike Rose before, he seems like a really interesting guy and I've heard a lot of good things about his jiu-jitsu skills. And Thomas Rozdzynski is a pretty good friend of mine, we used to train together a lot and he always had something that helped my game out.

You will not go wrong with Mike Rose or Christian Uflacker. You will rarely if ever hear anything but how amazing they are on the mat as well as what genuine people either are.

I will leave Gracie Barra Countryside out of my post , because, well, I have never heard anything of substance about them (not the team, but owner).

Miguel Torres - We all know who Miguel is , or at least everyone should now
Christian Uflacker - Multiple Time Brazilian Champ, Euro Champ, Active competitor.
Mike Rose - Has competed against names like Telles, Gracie, Patterson etc. etc. Now focused on teaching since he moved back from California.

those are the ONLY options I would consider within the southwest burbs/N. Indy.

I would take a free lesson and judge what "vibe" of the school you like, because the BJJ will be top notch at any of them.

I would definitely give Professor Christian a try. I have been training there for 6 months and while the school is still new and growing, the instruction is top notch. Christian is an excellent teacher and very patient, but more than that every student is helpful and friendly. The atmosphere makes you want to come in and learn as much and as often as possible.

sorry to go off topic, but i trust you guys more than the sherdog regulars.

i'm going to most likely moving to chicago within a few monthes for work and am wondering if anyone is willing to help me figure out where the better places are to live/access the city/etc. being such a big city, seemingly every source ive looked through has differing information, so i'd love some info from some natives who arent trying to turn a buck through real estate.

You might want to try and find out where your job will be located in the city. Travel in Chicago can be a pain in the a$$, especially during rush hour and with the constant construction on the expressways.
