Since the OP asked about how other people make it work:
I train BJJ M/W/Sat
M & W I go to work early so I can get home early and play with my daughter, which also gives my wife time to go for a walk, do yoga, take a nap, or whatever she wants. I leave for BJJ at 6:30 and am back by 8:45, which gives me more time with my daughter for bedtime routine (bath time, read stories, etc). This works out great for us, gives both my wife and I time for our own thing and focused time with our kid.
Sat I go to beginner class at 11 and usually back for competition class (takedowns) at 2. Frequently there is something like a birthday party for one of my daughter's classmates during the middle of the day, otherwise my wife will usually run some errands with the girl while I'm at the gym. Either way I spend some time with my daughter in the afternoon doing something fun (zoo, swimming, etc) so my wife can catch a mega-nap.
Like many of the other posters said, it's all about balance. There is a no-gi class at my gym on Fridays that would be fun to do, but I figure 3-4 times a week is enough for a hobby and so I choose to spend Friday nights with my family.
If you can't find any way to make 2-3 times a week work, there's some kind of problem. Even if you weren't doing BJJ, you'd still want to run or lift of something three times a week or you'd get fat and gross, right? There has to be time for exercise in a healthy relationship.

I work full time, train 4 times per week [2 hours each session], and am an avid bike rider on the weekends... Girlfriend/wife/kids is completely out of the question for the time being!

that's what i'm saying.
My gf busts chops, but my classes are 1 hr instruction and anywhere from 20-90 minutes of grappling. She works out at the gym in the mean time. Healthy lifestyles are important, makes the overall relationship better (wink, wink). Only way its an issue is if the gf is lazy and has nothing recreational to occupy their time. Just expect u to come home and....u know, just be there?
the key for me is as others have mentioned. I train 2-4 days during the week, along with weight training and keep the weekends available for us to hang. I don't even bother making plans Saturday and Sunday, pretty much do whatever she wants to do. whatever

I was doing this when I met my wife, so she's accepted it the entire time. Hell, since I hury my knee, when I get home from class on the weekends, she has her bikini on and is saying, "OK, fucko...time to hit the pool."
But it is give and take. Last night, I went home after class and we painted a table, cleaned all the rabbits' litter boxes, and cleaned the dining room. Chores gotta get done, too.
