Back from my tourney - video included
Hey guys. So I'm back from my tourney, got video of some matches for you.
First off, I just want to say the event at BCIT was incredibly well organized. It went fast, was structured well, and had a good set of rules. I got to meet Kalib Starnes and Ari Bolden. Both were really big guys, nice and polite to everyone. I got a picture with Kalib and he actually watched my match. Ari watched my match as well, but I didn't get a picture with him.
Anyways, there was three of us representing Nanaimo BJJ. Our instructor didn't come out so we basically just coached each other.
I came into this tournament with a broken toe and couldnt do much cardio training so I had to enter into a heavier weight category than I usually compete at. The toe injury was seriously affecting my takedown shot.
Here's my match (Im the smaller guy): YouTube - Nanaimo BJJ: Synn Edition
Here's my teammate Victor (blue gi): YouTube - Nanaimo BJJ: Victor
Here's my teammate Kyle (blue gi): YouTube - Nanaimo BJJ: Kyle Edition
All in all I had a blast. Should be competing again in November. And yes, assholes, I did get choked unconscious because I refused to tap. Anaconda, I'm sure you'll love watching me go out.

Glad you had fun. What do you mean Kalib Starnes and Ari are big? Like muscular? Tall? Heavy?

Wow you actually got a picture with Starnes!
I've heard he's never been caught on film before, how'd you get him to stand still?

If you consider ari to be big I am guessing you to be a flyweight aka 139 pound and under division.
Ari looks like he is 6"0 and 128 pounds on videos.

well im only 5'7, so both dudes towered over me. Kalib just looks like a dude who was born to be a fighter, crazy cauliflowered ears. And yeah, Ari's actually pretty ripped in real life.

I suspect I already know the answer but I'll bite anyway: Did Ari compete?

Did it just sneak up on you? Sometimes collar chokes are a little deceptive about how much time you have to tap.

He had me in a triangle in his guard, I was stacking him, and he rolled me into mount and held the triangle on. I don't remember anything after he rolled me, but after watching the tape it looks like I was trying to fight it, couldnt get out, and decided to take a nap over tapping.
