anyone better without the gi even though they dont train no-gi?

I had an odd experience. I never train without the gi i am a gi player but recently i started no-gi and for some reason now the roles are reveresed. None of the purple belts from my school can submit me without the gi and the brown belt we have has trouble with me. I am only a blue belt, I only wrestled for one year so wrestling doesnt really play a part. Has anyone else had this kind of experience where they are alot better without the gi even they dont train no-gi?

its just much harder to submit anyone in no-gi. im a slippery fellow, so i can slide my way out of a lot of things in no gi that i would be dead in in gi.

It is much harder to get submissions no-gi. Athleticism plays a bigger part. If you were now submitting more advanced people without a gi, that would be noteworthy.

Strength and speed will take you further without the gi. If you're stronger than most of you're training partners they will have a harder time controlling you without having the gi to hold on to. If this is the case it could be why you're better no gi.

Yes, gi training makes you so much better. I hate gi, but I bet I spend 80% of my time rolling in one. Then when I am no gi, I do flying angry monkey jiu jitsu. Seriously man. That is all I roll with is high blues and purple belts cause I am getting ready for tourney and mma. When that gi comes off I am all they can handle. I love that shit. Gi=technique. No Gi-athleticism/endurance/strength....

I keep rolling in my gi though. I don't know what it is, but gi makes you alot better alot faster. Plus you learn to use it to your advantage.

I think they are different types of strength...even how you grip w/o the gi is different. No gi requires (generally, not an absolute rule) an ability to chain submissions together faster where as Gi usually involves slowly working in a submission. No gi lets you move from position to position with greater ease and makes escapes easier whereas I think defense is easier with the gi if that makes any sense.
