I want to start jujitsu/judo
Hey, guys. I have been training in purely self protection now for 3 years or so as well as working hard on my strength and cardio, but i want to do Jujitsu/judo, and compete as well. My concern is that i am missing my right leg, and I am wondering if jujitsu/judo tournaments all start from standing as I will want to train with my leg off because I have much more mobility on thge ground that way.
Thanks.
PS: What is a good starting gi? Prefferably in blue.

They all start standing, but you can pull guard rather than going for a takedown.
That said, I'm unsure how you will be able to do jiu jitsu/judo without a leg, because you cannot play guard, and cannot really do many takedowns. But if you have ever seen that video of the wrestler competing with no arms or legs (!), then you will believe that anything is possible!
Good luck!!! People do amazing things in jiu-jitsu. I think you will be better off in BJJ than judo, because you will find it tough to practice any of the judo moves with just one leg.
For a good gi, just buy one from wherever you are training at. It supports the school. Very few BJJ schools will not carry decent stuff.

Go with JJ man, for competing in judo its pretty much a standing game, but a good JJ teacher can teach you how to pull a guard and work with you leg disability ... all the best to you man
As for a gi - http://www.atama-kimonos.com/product...ached_blue.htm

I'm sure with a good instructor you can figure out some kinds of sweeps you could pull off from a "pull guard" type move ... Keep us updated

Do whichever one you really want to. Any coach worth his salt will help you achieve your goals. I believe the jujitsu you mentioned is a traditional martial art (TMA) that will not focus much on judo or bjj type of techniques.
Oh, check out this link:
http://britishjudo.org.uk/ubbthreads...1628&Main=1359
...and part of the story from the link:
As inspirational as it is to see the M8’s compete, the crowd favorite was retired teacher 65 year old Joe Walters. Joe lost part of his lower leg while serving in Vietnam. He started judo after that and eventually made black belt. He said, “Judo was a life saver that channeled my energy into a positive force.” He has been training ever since. He begins each match balanced on one leg and brought the crowd to it’s feet with rowdy applause when he threw an opponent with a spectacular yoko wakari for ippon. Joe talked of his three trips to the Kodokan and saw his return here as a circular journey. His view has matured from merely winning to appreciating the people. He said, “Judo is people, not only the techniques." After meeting people from many countries and experiencing the camaraderie at this tournament I couldn’t agree more.
Good luck. We instructed a blind girl at our judo club for a while, and after an intial "awkward" period, she fit right in and nobody even thought twice about her disability.
