With all due respect fuck bjj. We need grappling to be in the olympics (that is submission wrestling). I also want MMA to be in the olympics but first thing is first and grappling is a great place to start.

also it will have to be a gi only cometition, and the gi bjj is way better in brazil then in anywhere else in the world in terms of the technical aspect, compare to the no-gi which you can get the same type of competition in the states. but the gi? brazil is a lot better then the states.

Depends what you mean by catching up. If you look at the Judo worlds it took 45 years for Japanese domination to end, and 55 years before not one Japanese judoka gold medalled. In Mundials, every single gold has been won by Brazilians except for BJ Penn. (*You could include Drysdale but he's half Brazilian and grew up in Brazil, so he basically received world class Brazilian training)

I don't even want Judo in the olympics anymore
MMA won't be in the olympics, and shouldn't be, maybe pankration
it wouldn't be practical, having to fight several times in a short time span, having alternate fights etc etc

To be honest, the easiest, quickest way to get it in would be under a subset of Judo adding another category for unilimited Newazza. You could even start out with just an Absolute Divsion.
This would require alot of cooperation between Judo and BJJ though so I don't know if it would happen but it's probably the best way to ensure BJJ gets in in 2016 as a non demonstration event. Otherwise, you would have to wait till 2020.

This will never happen unless the IJF takes the huge stick out of thier ass. I mean, come on, they took newaza out of judo because they thought it would look boring on TV and not put asses in the seats, so what makes you think they'll put it back?

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying that would probably be the only way for BJJ to be a medal event as early as 2016. But I do think there is something to be said for having a way for Brazil to up it's medal count so it's worth a shot.
