I hear that. I was shocked moving from local/national wrestling tournaments to international competition. The degree of absurdity introduced blew me away. You may be right...maybe not such a good thing for BJJ.

Wouldn't they have to drop"Brazilian"out of the sports name first?I'm not sure but I thought I've heard that before,an Olympic sport can't have a countries name in it???I could be completly wrong though...

I did not realize they already picked the new sports for 2016. Well there goes that. Exhibition then.

As someone mentioned, international politics have a way of messing up the sport anyway, see judo, freestyle, greco, and boxing, which all pretty much suck now as international sports. Personally, I think freestyle wrestling bears almost no resemblence, for the worse, to the sport I competed in just 10 short years ago.

But still, it would be nice having all the best guys vying for the same prize. Everyone would be competing, we wouldnt have all these last minute drop outs and stuff...

They would probably just call it Jiu Jitsu, but leaving Brazilian in the name wouldn't be any more of a travesty than Tae Kwon Do being made an Olympic sport. Nothing like having a sport where you limit the participants from a certain country since it is their national sport and the only place where adults actually care about doing it.

I feel like submission wrestling would probably make it into the Olympics before BJJ.
