2016 Olympics in Rio, will we see bjj in the olympics?

Would be awesome. I was hoping they would select Rio for this reason. It is a long ways off, plenty of time.

You beat me by one minute. Please edit your thread to include the "BJJ in 2016 games WARWAGON!!!!!!!!!!!"

And by the way, plus one on the wagon...Call your congressman to pressure the IOC to add BJJ.

BJJ is still a niche sport, even in Rio. Brazil is a judo place.

As a judoka, I hope BJJ does show up in the Olympics. Then jitz folk will truly learn how it feels to have your sport fucked up by bureaucracy and global politics.

Have fun in 2016!

Maybe it can be a demonstration sport...this practice has been officially discontinued but the host committee can do it if they want. 08 Beijing had a Wushu tournament. i hope they do the same for BJJ.

I believe the sports have already been decided for the 2016 Olympics (and if not then they're decided upon soon). My hope is that some attention is given to BJJ and submission grappling while the Olympics are going.

EDIT:

Golf among seven sports seeking inclusion in 2016 Games - Olympics - ESPN

Quote:
Golf, rugby, squash, karate and roller sports will be considered for the two openings on the 2016 schedule. All five had failed to win admission into the London Olympics in 2005.

The International Olympic Committee has sent letters to the world governing bodies of the seven sports notifying them that they are on the list for consideration, IOC spokeswoman Emmanuelle Moreau said Friday.

The same 26 sports on the London program will be put forward for 2016. The IOC has set a ceiling of 28 sports, meaning there will be room for only one or two new additions.

even though the olympics will be in 2016, do you guys think brazil will sweep all the competicion? (assuming BJJ gets accepted as a olympic sport) or will the world catch up?

also it will have to be a gi only cometition, and the gi bjj is way better in brazil then in anywhere else in the world in terms of the technical aspect, compare to the no-gi which you can get the same type of competition in the states. but the gi? brazil is a lot better then the states.

These guys will represent. Flavio Canto will come out strong!

Judo is quite popular in Brazil and they wil make a run for gold. But I'm betting nogi submission grappling under FILA rules will be an exhibition.
