Doesnt affect me but couldnt they have done something like:

Put into place the rule of needing at least 10% of your belt colour on it. And given the option of going out and buying the rashguard, or they give you patches to sow onto your current rashy, even if it was just two shoulder patches, i cant see this doing too much damage, the stitches could just be picked out later. And if you didnt want to do it to your good rashguard, buy a cheapo rashy for 15 bucks.

We should tie dye our rashguards.

10% white, 10% blue, 10% purple, 10% brown, 10% black, 10% red, 10% green, 10% orange, 10% what ever the fuck else u want 10% your fucking choice.

See if that would make them confused.

Well it's not like they're gonna be herding competitors around with sheepdogs and sticks. It's generally up to the competitors to go where they are told by the PA system, right?

They have booths from jiujitsu pro grear, nogi, budo videos and Kieko Raca where you can buy the shorts and rashguards to compete.

I guess the BJJ police will bust my ass if I compete with a black and red rashguard

Most people have one belt that is specially made to show rank in a sport that is seperated by rank and that rank is designated by our instructor.

A better analogy would be for purple belts to go out and buy a purple gi to compete in a tournament.

Seriously, why the fuck do we have to wear a tshirt saying "hey I am a purple belt, I just wanted you to know just in case you couldn't figure it out seeing as how I am rolling in a purple belt tournament."

Rediculous.

If they herded competitors with sheepdogs and sticks then it WOULDN'T be necessary to worry about the color of your rashie...assuming that the sheepdogs and the people with the sticks all KNEW what belt color every competitor was. So you still don't see the issue if someone went to the wrong mat number by accident? With everyone sitting around waiting for their match in different colored shirts you'd have no clue that you'd even made a mistake. But if you showed up at a mat in your blue rashie and everyone there had a brown one on you'd automatically think, "oh, wait, I'm not supposed to be here. Where's my mat. Oh, THERE it is. Over there...where everyone ELSE is standing around with a blue rashie on."

So how do you propose we determine rank at a no-gi tournament? If a no-gi tournament is separated by rank...a rank determined by your instructor?

Why would he need a purple gi if he already has a purple belt? The purple BELT tells you his rank. Everyone standing around at a no-gi tournament in board shorts and different colored shirt confuses the issue. A counter analogy would be...that's like have a BJJ tournament where everyone wheres whatever color belt they want.

You roll in "purple belt tournaments"? Or you roll in no-gi tournaments in the purple belt division? Because most tournaments I've seen are all belts. Separated by rank. So, no, in most cases, if you aren't walking around with anything to classify you as a purple belt, I CAN'T figure it out. Because there are all kinds of ranks walking around. And multiple mats. And lots of noise. And plenty of other shit going on.

Again the only real argument I have for this is "they" want to sell you "their" rash guard. They don't sell me a belt for a gi tourny? I already have one. If they would just give an "equipment required" section in the rules we could all go get whatever rash guard we want. If they state that it also has to indicate your belt rank in some way, fine. To me it's just like all the gi tournaments in that regard.

And, in my opinion, this can ONLY help. Maybe your a blue and you've been called to your mat but you have awhile before you roll. One of your buddies is a purple so you head over to talk to him before his roll. While your away the blues start but you don't know because your talking to your buddy. If everyone is wearing random crap no one has any clue as to your rank. But if you are wearing a blue rash guard some random guy may go, "hey bro, the blues have started, you might want to get back."
"Whoa! Thanks dude." I just don't see why it's even an issue...except for King Carlos trying to make his buck off it.
