I don't care if you've never taken off the gi.

This particular guy struggles with athletes with Judo and wrestling experience. When Eddie Bravo talked about jiu jitsu guys relying on gi grips too much he was probably referring to this guy and only this guy.

I thought they supplied you rash guards when you entered. Or at least they have in prior years.

I don't mind the rule so much IF they were to provide the rash guards like in the past. But putting the rule in effect...making you pay to enter the tournament...and then making you pay to get a rash guard on top of that? No bueno. I don't mind a little structure to the rules (to keep out the guy who wants to wear a pink leotard and a camo bandanna just for the hell of it) but this equates to not just having you wear a gi for a gi tournament, but a very particular gi that you probably don't already own, and therefore, have to purchase just for this event.

I have two problems with this.
I dont feel you shoudl enter nogi based on your belt level. I am officially a white belt (because I've trained very little at gi schools) who competes in blue belt and purple combined divisions and in nogi I usually go advanced. So what, I need to wear a (fake) blue or purple belt to compete against people my skill level then wear a blue or purple rashguard to face people my skill level? Its stupid. I sort of understand the purpose of just breaking it down and keeping it simple, but at the same time I think its stupid.
The main problem I have is the shorts. Boardshorts suck ass. I'm sorry I have four pairs of shorts. I have a Title MMA Quad Flex fight shorts, a Chute Box Vale Tudo shorts, Atama Vale Tudo shorts, and regular board shorts. Board shorts are horrible grappling attire in my opinion. The QuadFlex shorts move very well at the crotch, leg openings (with the v-cut in the side that most board shorts dont have), and have a much better stretchable waist. I use them mostly for tournaments. However if I am competing chances are I wear Vale Tudo shorts. They are skin tight, they are hard to get a grip on (you know, the point of nogi grappling), they slide well, and they dont fall down.
If they were to require any kind of shorts it should be Vale Tudo shorts. THE LAST thing they should require is board shorts. That is complete BS as board shorts F'ing suck.

To me, my level in the gi and out of it are very different. My instructor thinks the disparity in my ability is hilarious. Transversely I also train with a brown belt who just recently started doing no gi tournaments. He isn't the greatest brown belt in the world but he's okay, yet he gets tooled in novice no gi divisions. Ideally your belt rank should transfer no matter what you wear, but frankly it doesn't. That's why I like the fact that in no gi you don't need to wear a rank. Why the hell do people have to know what rank I am anyway? Roll with me and you will figure it out in 7 minutes.

If he is a brown belt getting tooled in novice no gi.... this is either complete bullcrap or he is possibly the world's most unathletic person.... I just can't see a brown belt gi or no gi getting tooled by any novice or even blue belt wrestler for that matter...
Tell us more about it....

Well...if there is one thing that i have learned: If it is not about money....then its most likely about money. Welcome to capitalism at work. If i can cut my overhead and get money to endorse substitute products why even make the rash guards?
