2009 ibjjf jiu-jitsu no gi uniform requirements

Quote:
THE ATHLETES WILLING TO COMPETE IN JIU-JITSU NO-GI EVENTS SHOULD WEAR A BLACK BOARD SHORT (SEE REQUIREMENTS) AND A BLACK OR WHITE RASH GUARD HAVING AT LEAST 10% OF THE FABRIC WITH THE COLOR ACCORDING TO HIS/HER BELT RANK.
International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation

WFT? This is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Let`s just forget the whole Jiu-Jitsu/grappling is about expressing yourself.

Someone needs to find out what their reasoning is.

It's the same thing as last year. Except last year they provided you with the rash guard, which was awesome. This blows that you have to buy your own.

Yes, because brown rashguards or soooooo easy to find.

Don't worry, I'm sure we could find some rashguards with the appropriate trim for sale on Gaciebarra.com

it's there to help organize the events by belt rank. it's no different than requiring blue belt competitors to wear their blue belts.

Wow. That is pretty lame. Seems like they are sponsored by keiko & nogi. They have a link to where you can BUY some if you don't have any... of course.

Here's the thing though. I have been doing no gi grappling for a lot longer than I have been doing Jiu jitsu. When I enter tournaments I go in at the highest level I can, and I do okay.

When I enter gi competitions I enter at purple belt because I have a purple belt and time spent on the mat with the gi confirms that that's where I belong.

To me, my level in the gi and out of it are very different. My instructor thinks the disparity in my ability is hilarious. Transversely I also train with a brown belt who just recently started doing no gi tournaments. He isn't the greatest brown belt in the world but he's okay, yet he gets tooled in novice no gi divisions. Ideally your belt rank should transfer no matter what you wear, but frankly it doesn't. That's why I like the fact that in no gi you don't need to wear a rank. Why the hell do people have to know what rank I am anyway? Roll with me and you will figure it out in 7 minutes.

If you're a brown belt you shouldn't get tooled by people who have been training for one year.
I don't care if you've never taken off the gi.
