Your favorite thing to do if you catch a MT kick?
So if you catch a MT kick, what is your favorite thing to do? I personally like the old fashion kick to the other leg for the takedown, the "MT sweep" if you will. I also like to do two other things from time to time. I like catching it, stepping in and driving a knee into their hamstring. I also like ctaching it and driving an elbow down into their quad as hard as I can. Since I am left handed I love when I catch a front leg body kick of theirs and Then I can step through while driving my elbow accross their quad and use that to run my shoulders and hips to set up the sweep kick. Then if its MMA I don't fall to the half gard, I just lean over them and start punching them right in their face until they try to either push away with their legs or sit up to grab me and pull gaurd, then I'll just spin step and move away and start all over again. What do you guys like to do? I've noticed a lot of ground guys using it to take the guys down, but in the words of Austin Powers, "Ground game aint my bag baby!"
P.S. For all the young guys out there, please stop dropping your hands to "catch" a kick. Not only will that not work, but a half decent MT guy will notice you're doing it and look at your body, but go upstairs...you wont remember a thing. Check the kick (don't forget to use your arm as a sheild too) and if he goes over your shin you might get the leg pinched between your theigh and your arm, then grab it. Or he kicks, you block/check it and he is slow to bring it back so you have the chance to grab it. Or he lands the kick to your body and you pinch the leg between your body and your arm when you drop your arm on the leg when it makes contact. In any case, NEVER TRY TO CATCH A KICK!!! Pinch it somehow. Then go to work.

As I am pretty inexperienced in MT, pretty much the sweep is the only thing I have done. Once i get a little more experienced I may try something else. But I rarely catch em, I've eaten too many to the ribs to want to leave myself open

Depends on the kick:
If it's a teep, I like to either kick-sweep the rear leg or drop it slightly to the side and cut kick as soon as it falls. For some reason, elbowing the quad is considered "dirty tactics" at the gyms I've trained at, but I'm sure if I actually tried it I'd like it.
If it's a roundhouse, I like punching the face with a thunderous overhand. Simple, effective. It's almost automatic for me to do this nowadays, which I guess is a good thing, but there's a San Shou move I want to try out (I tried to find a video but I couldn't). Hard to describe, it's a flashy looking takedown:
- say you're both orthodox
- he throws a rear mid roundhouse
- as you catch it, you take a step to your right
- you hold his leg tightly against your body as you turn your torso slightly counterclockwise and down, i.e. moving your right shoulder towards your left hip, and exert pressure on his knee with your body
- this action will plant your opponent on his ass because what you're doing is effectively kneebarring him momentarily while standing
- since you have his leg, it's easy to pass into side guard if you please
