The other big difference is clinching in muay thai...it is an art in itself

Oh yeah, I forgot about the clinch. I'm curious because I originally wanted to take MT, but only found one school around here that only offers it one day a week, so I was like screw that.

That's when I decided that kickboxing is probably pretty similar, so I've been taking that for the past few months now.

Saying Muay Thai kickboxing is ignorant.

Muay Thai is Thai boxing

Kickboxing is western verysion, wear long trousers and foot pads, no low kicks, knees or elbows.

Its like saying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu wrestling. Its two different sports.

Muay Thai followed as a sport for Muay Boran to practice their safer techniques in a safe envirnment.
Krabbi Krabong is a complete style of fighting which encompasses weapons, grappling and Muay Thai Boran. Muay Thai Boran is the old style of Thai boxing in which the thais used to bind theor hands and foreamrs with hemp rope and use their forearms to block more.
Modern Thaiboxers use their gloves and shins more in blocking and less their forearms.
Also Muay Thai Boran punched less than today and emphasized elbows more.
But both are very similar.

There are many differences between Muay Thai and American Kickboxing, from tactics, stances, execution of moves, weapons employed and targets, etc. It would take a while to list every specific one down. Just watch American and Muay Thai fight videos (with real Thai fighters) and you'll get a good idea.

Well, I was talking more about the things you can use. MT you can use knees, elbows, hands and feet and kickboxing you can use feet and hands.

The only thing I don't like about kickboxing is that you can't kick below the waist. I love doing leg kicks, I really could use those effectively.

EDIT: Yellow belt now!!! Now I can make fun of white belts

thats why Mui thai is better than kick boxing, because when kick boxers kick below the waist its not kickboxing any more.

Because kickboxing originated as an amalgam of boxing, Karate, TKD, etc. and contiues to incorporate other styles, I consider it more of a ruleset than its own distinctive style. Go tell someone like Maurice Smith or Cro Cop that kickboxing sucks.

Yea, I love kickboxing. But, I really don't like that you can't kick below the waist.

Are there different rules/modifications where you can kick below the waist in kickboxing?
