Elbow joint injury

I've been getting back into shape for the past 9 months or so, and have recently developed a sharp pain in my elbow that only lets me throw punches at around 60% of my total power. I cannot curl much weight due to this pain either.

Shadow boxing today I noticed that even my form is different because of this pain. Even though my punches were hard, they did not look the way that they used to.

The elbow started hurting after one strenous chinup workout, and I always try to give it 2 weeks or so to heal, but now after tricep-iso pushouts, the bows are just hurting again. Its very hard for me to abstain from working out or throwing hard punches for even one week, two is worse, and I don't want to miss weekly BJJ classes even with the frequent armbars.

Any tips, advice or anything would be appreciated.

i got my elbow popped pretty bad by an armbar and i could not throw any decent crosses for a while either..around 2 months i would say ..i couldn't stop training either so it took it's been probably 4 months now and it still gets sore....i can't straighten my arm completely still without some discomfort. I would say just ice it down at some point work on your technique with the punch in that arm instead of throwing it hard even at 60%....it worked for me a bit..hope that helps

Is it the joint or the ligament? I had a ligament injury and it's still not the same.

I'm guessing that you've recently started BJJ, correct? I had bad elbow pain from getting armbarred when I first started Sambo. And it never seemed to get better.

But it will. You'll get to a point where you won't get armbarred as much and, when someone does have an armbar, you'll recognize the lost cause much sooner and tap before your elbow gets strained.

i've had the same problem before. about a year ago i was sparring with a friend and i threw a right straight. he slipped the punch and stood up (he's taller than me) well my arm locked out right when he stood up and i hyperextended my right elbow. i used the R.I.C.E. treatment for it. Rest Ice Compression Elevate. its still not 100%. feels like a pinched nerve now but thats only if i extend my right punch too far.

your probably suffering form tendonitis.. commonly called tennis elbow.. a common over use injury.. i have the same problem right now.. ive hade it for almost 3 months now.. the only way to handle it is to let it heal up on its own.. i hear a cortizone shot will help but only for about 6 weeks..

I've been out a month already from BJJ cause of a sore left elbow.......... can't fully extend my arm. I'm afraid to throw a jab. I'm just letting it rest .....don't know what else to do. (too lazy to go to a doctor.)
