Training Question

Hey guys, there isn't any kind of striking dojo where I live, so I need some advice. I don't own any kind of training bags, and I am soon going to start training in BJJ. So what is the best way that I can improve my striking?

Are you absolutely sure there isn't even a boxing gym where you live? Where do you live?

well, either way, if you can't find a good striking school here is the next best thing.

-Go out and buy a black kenpo type gi, a TKD style head gear, and a couple pairs of Numchucks.

-Now this is important, MAKE SURE the numchucks are blessed by your local ancient buddhist monk.

-Go on youtube, look up these terms.
Karate kata
Tae Kwon Do forms
5 Animal kung-fu

and most importantly

"Ashida Kim",

now. Watch all the videos and try to do what you see in the videos.

After you have trained in that for a couple weeks. Sign up for the next local Muay Thai or MMA tournament/Smoker.

Then go get em' kid. Remember, it's not the ART , its the PRACTICIONER. You can beat them if you really want to, and if you have practiced enough.

Yeah i was in a rush.

But seriously, without a bag or an instructor i guess the best you could do is to look up stuff online and buy some instructional DVDs. Maybe shadowbox, if you can do that properly.

well, you can work on your conditioning and cardio at least!

I concur...except Ashida Kim is a Fraud. The true master that actually did fight in K1MAX is Tony Valente.

You know, I was one of those guys who downloaded a bunch of books and dvds to train myself Muay Thai and boxing at home for about a year.

When I actually joined a boxing and MT gym, that year of self training was worth ... a week? maybe two?

Seriously - self training is beyond worthless....

I say save up some money for a 6 month thailand trip in a couple years hehehe ;)

Self -training can be useful.

But only if you have had previous formal training. At least in my experience.

For the record Mirko Crocop was self-taught at one point, that is why he fights so weird.

So was that one guy on the boxing contender show. Evan tanner was self-taught, given he had some grappling partners.

It all depends on your attention to detail and aptitude for learning and absorbing information.

Tell your BJJ instructor to hire a striking instructor. He should want to.
