Blocking leg kick w/ front of thigh?

Is this a legit defense to the leg kick (besides shielding of course)? Pivoting of the foot and stepping in so you take the leg kick on the front of the thigh(quad area).

Sounds like blocking a punch with your face.

As last resort this is not a bad idea as long as you flex your quad as hard as possible. The looser your leg, the more damage you take. Furthermore, when you step you can cut off the distance your opponents leg is traveling, so the blow could be less. Finally, when you are in a situation like this, make it worth it's while, and throw a hard cross at your opponent while he throws the leg kick. With a little luck, you will drop him hard.

Actually one defense for hooks is to smother them by cutting off the rotational distance(reduces power of opponent).

Rudy's right. Plus taking one off of the middle of the thigh is better than taking one in the pills.

But generally speaking getting hit in the thigh is highly subpar.

So basically it's not really recommended but if there isn't another choice then do it?

Yea, the technique you are referring to is jamming, but it will eventually take it's toll if you keep blocking like that, so I'm with the rest, it's best used as a last resort.

If you have to jam hte kick they do so or use the traditional block and use your shin bone.

If you don't shield, then use it as a last resort. As others said, tensing your muscles makes it harder for your opponent's shinbone to dig into your thigh.

well yes, I've known that. It's just that if you're not taking as much force away with a leg kick than when you cut off a hook.

Besides, I'd rather move my leg OUT of the way instead of further into the way.
