Really? Sounds like an invitation to a random person to come along and kick you in the head to save your opponent. I know you said one on one, but very few real life altercations unfold like this. Even when you think you're alone, you're not.
That aside, I'd rather count on decent standup skills than trying to grapple on the pavement and ruining my knees. YMMV.
Using your assumption that "most people don't know anything", it's pretty simple for a reasonably trained person to end a fight quickly, on his feet.

my 2 cents...
i agree with people here who say stay away from street fights because they are dumb, but the fact is that this world is full of assholes and random acts of anger, so they aren't always avoidable, so if you do happen to get in one GO ALL OUT, use your knuckles use your elbows, legs, knees, teeth, grab and twist their nut sack, do it all. who gives a fuck if you have a broken hand, atleast your alive.
a street fight is a street fight and there are no rules, you don't know who has a gun or a knife or 5 friends watching from the sidelines, so go all out do everything you can to win, try and stay off the ground and once he is down run like hell.
just like my uncle told me when i was a lil kid "hit first, hit fast, then run away"

Whats with all these street fight threads?
Krav Maga threads got the boot from this section, isn't this in the same category?

LOL...not flaming you, but have you ever actually been in a real self-defence situation?
It's quite obvious that a person would have a better chance of dealing with more than one opponent when standing rather than on the ground.
Go grapple on pavement and tell me how that works out for you.

What do u think? And anyone got any tips on how to fight with elbows on streets?

Toughen up your hands... simple way is hitting a makiwara board...
You don't have time to think in explosive fights, no matter what u tell yourself before, if you see a face open, you will punch it if its what u do in the gym...

All of the fights I have seen have started off with one guy within 2 inches of another guys face. Words get exchanged, one guy gets too close, then it jumps off. When it gets to this, jump back a couple of feet into a fighting stance. DONT GET SUCKER PUNCHED OFF OF THE MAD DOG STARE.

Also, elbows are great if you can close the distance, i've used them in a street fight before. Once they throw the giant right haymaker, just step in and clinch up and throw knees to the body/elbows over the top from there, providing you have a decent clinch it should be game over for said opponent.

a) tell that to jack dempsey.
b) tell that to mike tyson, who busted his hand multiple times doing it your way.
c) learn some physics. same amount of pressure spread out over a larger area = safer. and that's barely the beginning of it; without gloves, using the bottom three knuckles is safer.

not good for the guy im on top of. and yes. most of the street fights ive been in were at school, where we fought outside on the grass.
and it shocked me how i was able to easily control someone on the ground and they could do nothing. this was when i first started out btw.
you obviously have never trained grappling before.
go read lee murrays thread on street fighting,
he said he got in tons of fights, and used chokes all the time because people don't know how to defend them.
just go watch the gracie in action tapes and you will see the effectiveness
