Should i be a southpaw???

I've been training muay thai for the last 1 and 1/2 years i've always been taught that if your right handed you should stand in the regular stance like every one else has been taught but in shadow boxing, sparring , some times bag work i've notice that i have a strong urge to fight southpaw...i mean for some wierd reason i see better options when i spar southpaw...my right hook and jab is better than if i would have been in the regular stance with my left hook and jab ...also my left straight is some what better than my right straight not so much in a power way but techinuqe...also my footwork is seems better and create more angles ...should i start fighting southpaw??? Any advice would be apperciated

it probably only seems that way because most people are orthodox so if you switch stances it throws off your sparring partners. You should ask your instructor since he would know more about your technique and footwork than us.

I'm the opposite, a southpaw who fights orthodox.

I feel more comfortable with my left hand for jabbing, hooking and defence. Must add that i'm a grappler as well so is suits me to be in a 'strong side forward' stance.

I'm a righty but I do both. I was at that point once when I was just getting into boxing and it seemed I was pretty good in both southpaw and orthodox stances. Me and my trainer did some work and I found that if you keep switching your stance in a fight, your opponent will be so disoriented he won't know what to do. Look at Andre Ward. It works for him and it does me too.

FFS, NO! Especially not after a year and a half.

There should be a stickied thead in this forum,

"Stances; pick one and stick with it" or "Ambidextrous; you're almost certainly not"

Of course your hook and jab are going to be better if you lead with your strong, natural hand. In our gym we are taught to stand with your feet together and lean forward; whichever foot you naturally step with is the one that should be in front in your stance.
