I visit Bullshido quite often and found a thread regarding Kenpo. According to this some people, Kenpo advocates raising your chin into the sky and hands down to your waist when fighting. There's like a heated discussion over Kenpo stances.
Some of the stuff the Pro-Kenpo people said are like:
Having your chin up does not make you more prone to a knock out. If you do get hit in the chin, it means you suck.
Having your chin up lets you absorb more shots to the top of the head (hammerstrikes)
In response to boxers having their chin down and hands raised: That's because they are boxing. Stances like those wouldn't work against Kenpo style punches.
Boxers train for the ring, Kenpo trains for the street.
Here's a quote
Quote:
* turning sideways gives you a reach advantage with your lead leg
* keeping the hands down with the lead leg (made available by the sideways stance) there to stuff an attack and keep distance reduces the risk of getting punched on the chin
* keeping the hands down is a necessity to conserve energy to allow sparring to continue for long periods
* keeping the hands down can help maintain one's punching power as the sparring continues because if you keep your hands up and your shoulders get tired then they'll also get stiff. When your shoulders get stiff you lose punching power because they cannot transfer power from your legs into your fist
* by keeping the hands low one is forced to use body movement to avoid attack. If your hands are up then your natural reaction is to just take the pummeling on your arms, which still hurts you.
* We in kenpo train for the street, not sport! Therefore, we keep our chins up to keep our vision open to other attackers and escape routes.
* Stance isn't important to me because like my teacher I can drop peeps without actually touching them.
* Keeping the chin up and hands down lets the attacker know you're confident in your ability to hurt him and helps defeat him psychologically
* turning sideways protects your balls better than squaring up
* Because Kid is a lesbian (I don't know what this is about)
* when your hands are down you'll be punching from unusual angles that will be hard for an opponent to avoid
* chin up because you should always look at whatever you want to hit-- like a marksman

Here's another when asked about footwork

What would be the purpose of footwork movement? Why do I need to move?

As a boxing trainee, I have to disagree with most of the stuff. Does Kenpo really do this? Any Kenpo guys here who can verify this?
I would give a link but I have find the thread and learn how to post a link.
