Questions about leg kicks...the PAIN

Okay so i've been training hard in kick boxing for just over 2 months now, and we're really working the leg kicks on the bags/pads and in sparring with shinpads

i'm having difficulty taking leg kicks on the outside, on the flesh directly adjacent to the shin...does this pain go away after you kill the nerves or do i need to check the kicks at a certain angle

i mean i've got a good threshold for pain but when i get hit at the right angle my leg goes dead, the shit's just that painful

any suggestions? this happens when check the kicks too, only from a certain angle though... no flaming please...

Yea the first few times its brutal. you gotta get used to it. Just like how when you first started banging up your shins you were like WTF THIS KILLS, MY SHINS ARE GOING TO EXPLODE. It takes time. Try conditioning it yourself by hitting it maybe... Or just learning to take it, it will come.

Find time to kick the bottom part of a heavy bag at your gym and just do it over and over and over. Don't overdo it, the pain will let you know when to stop for the day. Keep doing this and over time your shins will toughen up.

As for sparring, just tell your partners to go lighter with the kicks for a while. No point in busting up your legs so badly that you can't even train. What's worse is if you hurt your leg in sparring and become gun shy of blocking because of the pain and just try to take it on your leg, then you'll just screw up your leg and develop bad habits.

So in summary, kick the bag, take it easier in sparring for a while, and take care of your legs, it's the only pair you have

You mean you're having a lot of pain when checking kicks because you're taking it on the meaty part of your shin?

If so, I know what you mean, I had an ongoing bruise for a very long time, when you check kicks try to make the angle more outward so that you block with the bone and not the muscle.

yea this is exactly what i'm talking about, i guess my reaction time isnt to that level where i can make that adjustment to check the kick with my bone

this shit hurts so bad i cant even train on it for like a day or two

it's primarily in my left leg now, at first it was my right...but my right leg is much stronger and durable now...which leads me to think this extreme pain is temporary and strengthens the leg to push it to this point....idk

and sorry about the double thread idk how that happened
