Question: Rehab a broken hand (knuckle)
I broke my knuckle in a boxing match last saturday. I've got a kickboxing match for the 14th of this month.
What can I do to speed up my recovery/rehab? I know it's not going to be 100% in 10 days, but I want to get it as well rehabbed as possible.
Also, I've been thinking of different techniques to use to make up for my handicap. So far, my idea is to stand southpaw, throw a lot of left cross while using my right front kick as a jab, only using my right hand to feint punches and the occasional spinning hammer punch. Any suggestions?

I've got a suggestion. Drop your fight and go to the doctor. If you want to fuck up your hand forever and possibly end your career, then take your fight.
I have had a bum hand since august of 2005, all because I didn't rest it after I got injured. Don't make my mistake.

Agree with KK, no point in taking the fight if one of your tools is partially broken. I mean i couldn't imagine hitting someone with a broken knuckle. I think that this will cause a distraction during the fight. go to the dr and have him take a look at it. Safety first.

You think? It's the knuckle, not the shaft of the ****carpel (sp?). My coach...well, he's no doctor, far from it in fact...but he doesn't see any problem with me fighting with it. Hell, he had me punching three days after the break!
I see what you're saying, though. I don't want to destroy my hand and end up with a six month rehab rather than just taking six weeks.

If I understand you correctly, you have a busted knuckle, nothing is broken. The joint capsule is likely deformed, some synovial fluid got out, the whole thing is sore, somewhat swollen, and feels like something is rubbing when you move it.
It's not a DANGEROUS injury, but it can take months to heal. If you bust it up even further, you can kiss your career goodbye because it will never heal. I've busted a knuckle, and believe me, you can feel and reinjure that shit many months after you hurt it.
I'd see a doctor and concentrate on rehab and things which don't involve punching if you value your hand.

Go see a doctor pronto and if he recommends a specialist, do that pronto. I broke my knuckle a couple of years ago and the doctor just splinted it and said to let it heal. It took months before it did, and even then it was week for months after. It healed wrong and i am now absent one knuckle, and when i make a fist with my right hand - my ring finger doesn't close properly, and sticks out. hurts like hell if i hit anything even slightly wrong. My advice: get it sorted properly, and if they suggest surgery - take it, its going to take a long ass time to heal anyway, may as well do it right.
