What you have made is an improvised makiwara. It can definitely help, but start off cautiously. And, make certain if it is on a interior sheet rock wall, that it is over a stud, or it will be in the wall soon.

Do you have an instructor or are you just punching?

In my experience, it's perfecting technique and timing that leads to more power... regardless of what you're hitting.

something without any give is a sure way to fuck your wrist to hell. do not attempt

spend all your lunch money on getting a real bag if you're serious about it.

Ask yourself, ever seen a focus mitt taped to the wall in a boxing, kickboxing or MT gym?
At least have a friend hold the focus mitts for you.
Taped to a wall is asking for injury.

Even makiwara's have a certain degree of 'Give'...

I seriously advise against punching something on your wall. You cannot hit it with full power without causing yourself damage, unless you are 12 years old. Then maybe you wont have enough weight and strength to put enough strain on that tiny wrist joint..

punching on the wall might lead to bad habit of not following through in your punches. which i feel is one of the most important contributing factor for power/devastation.

So does the padding in a focus glove or pad.

Makiwara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaGood explanation of the types and use. Nor does one need to dump everything they have into it, in order to prove helpful to their striking. When all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail = a very limiting philosophy IMO.
