Is it possible to stick and move against somebody taller?
I mean in an MMA context. Let's say you're fighting Jon Jones. Well, he's a good wrestler, so you don't want to get too close to him, but he has the longest reach in UFC history. Could you fight from the outside against a guy like that? If so, how?

If the guy is a total Struve, then yes.
If the guy is like Jones, yes...but good luck.

Would take a true boxer to do it.
You step in quickly, throw combinations, exit.
Think about it this way, even if someone has a 10 inch reach advantage over you, that's only 5 inches on both sides. That's not a lot if you actually know how to step forward. ALA Mike Tyson style, but like you said you'd have to move back out since Jones is a great wrestler.
Con in, throw combo, con out. You'd need to be pretty fast to do it, but most MMA fighters are really slow.

Yeah someone like Anderson or a boxer with great athleticism, AKA not James Toney, that knows how to find range and quickly back out after strikes.

For sure you can do it. Just work on getting in and, just as importantly, exiting. Feel when your opponent will bomb and exit. He can waste energy hiting air.

Machida was countering though, I think he meant literally be the aggressor. Frankie Edgar is the better person to look at.

In a boxing context, you could with a good up-jab, footwork, and understanding of angles. But we're also talking MMA, which means kicks are a factor. I think someone could take Jones in the striking if they had good timing with quick kicks. Beat up his skinny legs with inside leg kicks and then start to mix it up with quick straight punches to the head and body after that.
Yeah, there are stick and move fighters that often fight at a reach disadvantage..
