poss tuf spoiler-wht does emerson v hill mean

now i know emerson is a counter guy, who blocks/slips and returns fire; not to mention him not necessarily being a top standup guy...

but he is an athletic, skilled, well conditioned exp fighter; having racked up a fair record in mma and having shown good skills/ability against jens 4-5yrs ago when jens was on top of his game...an jens is considered to be one of the tougher, more skilled standup guys w/hands at least.

an he was basically outworked and muscled around by a untrained brawler, hill has good wrestling; but the fight never really hit the ground..so its not as big an issue.

THE POINT BEING an exp guy w/a decided standup adv was really unable to do anything w/ a tall athletic strong aggressive tough unskilled guy.. hill imposed his will on him. Emerson landed leg kicks, but was never able to chop hill down or really slow him down; an even though he countered well at no point did he really rock or dissuade hill from moving his hands.

what does this mean in regards to standup-the obvious would be that build/frame and athleticism plays a huge diff, esp when the skillset is not OBSCENE. As hills ranginess seemed to trouble emerson def, as hill landed fairly well and it eff him off as he could not really work through hills hands or put shots together.

in regards to toughness emerson could not put him on his heels or down, an he threw pretty sharp shots and while he was not aggressive u would think it would not take much to put someone down or control a guy w/a limted skillset

so once again does ability and toughness play that big apart when the guy w/the skills is not upper echelon

i guess it touhced a nerve due to a situation where i almost had to fight a guy who had that kind of adv over me i.e. 6'3 225 athletic tough hard hitting..no real training but alot of streetfights/fights in jail /etc. An being that i am a bit of a def guy/mobile/counter guy of sorts, not as good as emerson; but decent, seein that really made me think in regards to what can happen when facing an opp (who may lack skill..but has heart toughness athleticism)

thoughts opinions

u would think that a guy w/that background (trained w/ruas) would be able to adj and counter hills abilities/aggression and not be so hesitant...and generally ineffective (not as eff as u would think he would be)

its not like hill outwrestled him..he outfought him in a standing situation

Egh. Ruas has trained 2 fighters who are the most gun-shy fighters I've seen in the cage. Rizzo, and Emerson. Both skilled, both KNOW what to do, both elected not to do it. Emerson even said "This happens in a lot of my fights." I'll never forgive Rizzo because against Randy BOTH times he had Randy's number, then threw it away by being too hesitant. Emerson did the same thing.

I like Corey, he's a physical anomaly, works hard in training, learns fast, and unlike most shit-talkers he had the balls to show up to the casting, quit his job, and dedicate his life to success at MMA despite the disadvantages he's at, and he DID out-work Emerson with such little qualifications.

But raw talent can take a guy like that very far if he chooses.

my point exactly and as many guys in here or in the forum say sch and such the fact is alot of us are def in the same boat..esp when pressed w/an opp who won't fold or slow down..

i know i pick my shots and am not thrown as a consistently busy guy, nor am i a heavy striker; so that makes me wonder esp since i was in a situation w/a guy who had similar build (height/range) athleticism..

alot of guys know what to do-most don't esp when pressed and unable to dissuade the guy..

an i shocked how a skilled/exp guy had that much trouble w/the reach and ranginess u think he could adjust having prob been put in w/tht phys type b4

should make all strikers think twice-ability counts esp when mixed w/heart
