True, Silva is a better standup fighter, but Irvin's stand up coaches are MUCH better than Silva's, so i guess he had a chance

Much better at fighting, not necessarily better coaches. Plus the raw material is just as important as the sculpter when it comes to fighters/coaches. I also have yet to see a coach jump into a ring/cage and help. Better or worse coach you make it or break it in the moment on your own. Irvin NEVER had a chance.

Here's my Kru TKOing his opponent in the 1st round, in an amateur 'bout, circa 2006.

Believe it or not, catching a leg kick is actually taught as a defense in Muay Thai. Watch footage of Thai camps and instructionals, they do it.
But it's only used if:
A) The kick is horribly sloppy/slow, meaning you can easily anticipate it.
B) The kick is weak and you have absolutely no respect for your opponents leg kick game.
Other than that, it is a pretty big risk if you are fighting someone who is even remotely competent in kicking. So basically anderson had no respect for his kicking game whatsoever if he just went ahead and caught his leg kick.
"you stand up to exchange Muay Thai, this is what happens."
all that being said, good hustle by irvin, he shouldn't have panicked though, he might've been able to jump into the clinch when his leg was caught, instead of punching. But then who knows how that would ended.

I suppose if you have no respect for the guy or he has no skills there's lots of things you can do to walk right through him, but the guy on the other end of the ring (esp in MMA) always has a striker's chance. I don't buy that Silva had a complete lack of respect for Irvin...I still think he was expecting a body kick and I have to believe that Silva isn't stupid/cocky enough to think that Irvin doesn't have a striker's chance.

im not saying he didnt have respect for irvin as a person, just his kicking skills, i mean look at his kicks. in muay thai matches a kick gets caught if it's sloppy and lacking decent power. he didn't even sidestep to catch the kick, that tells you he wasn't remotely afraid of the power. and yeah, he could've thought it was a body kick also, but it doesn't change the outcome.
simply outclassed, if the leg kick was decent it would make another fighter think twice about catching it and sustaining damage.
