my muaythai vs aikido!!!
Recently, a couple of my friends were at a bar BS ing... One of my friend is a black belt Aikido (Aikido =Steven Segal BS from Japan) martial artist. He was claiming his aikido evasion and circular wrist lock throws is the ultimate art. The statement pissed me off so i challenged him.
I do muay thai (have been doing it since i was 14yrs old). I was drunk, so I pissed off my buddy by saying that Aikido is BS, and he cant stop my strikes.. Well that pissed him off and he invited me to spar with him at his Aikido dojo.
-(Fight Night)- with his sensai (master), and a couple of my other friends watching and behind closed doors he put his dojo honor on the line against my muay thai skills. My friend is about 5'8 170lbs (vietnamese), I'm 5'6 130lbs (Thai). The rules were simple, no rules, except eye gouging and and ball smashing.
-We start the fight, and I jabbed him multiple times to see his reaction speed. Than smack, i throw my trademark right round house kick to his leg. I rinse and repeat, this time with the left leg to his rib. I also crossed punched him once which dropped him to the floor. I patiently, let him get back up. After just landing 4 kicks to his legs i noticed him limping. Than i faked a straight right punch, than went for my left high kick, which landed flush on his face, and down he went. I stopped the brutal beating because he was my friend.
-in conclusion- i think there is meditation arts and real life arts. Aikido is more of a meditation art. Aikido do not spar, therefore in real time fighting, they are tentative to throw or use there techniques. For a black belt Aikido student (who outweighed me) to lose to me that easily, simply proves my point that belts do not mean anything, and if you dont train to real fight you will not win. I was surprised that he did try to take me down once, but i sprawled because i been practicing jujitsu on the side. I think if you want to the be the ultimate art, you have to evolve and cross train, enough of this ancient century old meditation BS.. Its good for the mind and spirit but for real time fighting its obselete. I'm not trying to put down the art of Aikido, i think its a great art, but in real life its not applicable.
=His excuse was i was using boxing gloves which hindered his wrist throw techniques.. I just laughed at him and said that my gloves made my wrist an easier target and much more easier to grab, he continued to debate, and i finally asked him if he wanted to do it again..
He did not answer me and instead changed the subject to world cup soccer..
-just to clearify, my friend was not wearing any gloves at all, he was bare knuckle.
In reality there is a big diffrence between full contact styles, and demonstration arts.
Aikido is more of a demonstration art.
