my muay thai dilema

Hello I have a problem ive been taking jiu jitsu for about 3 months and i want to get into muay thai the thing is that im 15 years old im 5'9 145 pounds. I wanna train muay thai at my jiu jitsu school but most of the muay thai guys in there are like 24 and 200 pounds. I grapple with them and i can sometimes keep up with them but i fear that when i stand up with them that im just gonna get pounded and some of the guys will resent the fact that i joined when i get paired up to sparr with them maybe im being a girl but i feel like if i join I would be a hastle for my fellow boxers. In muah thai will i be able to keep up with people 60 pounds heavier then me if i use better technique and work hard like in jiu jitsu or is it more of a brute strength thing.

I'm 15 also and I weigh around 150ish

I've been doing muay thai since last november, sure there are people alot bigger than me that kick my ass but they don't go a full 100% they take it easier. Once you start going on a regular basis and commit to it, then you'll be able to do better while sparring.

Btw, what gym do you train at?

training with people better than u can only in turn make u better, and most people, if theyre not assholes that is, will not mind help in training new students.

first of all, no coach in the world is gonna stick a new guy with anyone older and heavier unless he knows that the more experience guy will be thinking of your safety. Second, think about this, if you train with all these big guys all the time, when it comes to to fight in your age/weight class it will be so much easier

A good trainer will start you out slow and let you progress at your own speed. Personally I think it would be good for you to go against a bigger guy sooner or later to toughen you up and help you work on movement.

haha.. similar problem, but less..

-i train muay thai at my school and all/ well most of the fighters here are heavier than me. i weigh 130lbs (120-125lbs on fight day), and only 5'6=me asian. Most guys where i train are HW or LHW fighters. There is only 3 guys who are even near my weight class for sparring and that is at 145-160lbs.

-We do not go 100% when spar, but when i tag them good using more better techniques most will try to out muscle me all the time in clinch. the way i see it, spar but spar smart. Dont spar with people who try to hurt you.

Brute strength and size is considerably more important in striking than it is in grappling.

That said, you're not going to be going against a bigger opponent who is trying to take you out. It's just sparring.

When I first started training at my MMA gym I was concerned that I would slow down the more experienced fighters but after diving it I found it not to be the case. Everyone was more that happy to help and be patient and I learned much quicker sparring and rolling with larger and more experienced guys. Just go for it, in fact they will respect you for being tough and stepping up. Good luck and enjoy.

sparring heavier people is not much different but a tall person with reach is hard to get in on strength only comes in to play in the clinch how much u bench has nothin to do with how hard u hit well i hope u get my point
