Muay Thai throws!

What kind of throws are legal in muay thai bouts. I know that hip throws are not, but I think that sweeps and trips are perfectly legal. Can you really throw people Judo style within the rules?

Not in any MT fight I have ever seen or heard of. It is called the science of eight limbs meaning hands, feet, knees, and elbows. Not the science of eight limbs and some throws. Now if you leg kick someone and their legs give out from that, that is legal, but trying to take someone down while in the clinch or tripping someone is not. That is called San Shou and is a different fighting style, watch Cung Le if you wanna see San Shou

The muay thai i've seen it is legal to throw from the clinch. I saw this event in Holland awhile back, and there it was at least.

Actually there a few throws in Muay Thai. You can scoop and throw your opponent when he tries to knee you in the clinch, you can throw him when you have full clinch.

Do you train in Muay Thai?

Yes I do train Muay Thai, just guess I have never seen anyone get thrown, nor have I seen anyone in MT get trained on how to throw. Learned something new and didn't even have to go to class for it. I am still kinda new at this and am not in the advanced training yet. They probably work on it in advanced, but I have never seen it. Guess I need to watch more traditional muay thai.

I'm still not very clear on some of the Muay Thai rules in regards to throws, but I know that hip throws are illegal and aside from sweeps from caught kicks, throws hardly affect the score anyways. Now if I'm clinching and my opponent decides to place his knee/shin on my hip to prevent knees, then I'll be more than obliged to turn him and dump him on his ass, but I don't think I'm really scoring points in that scenario.

Hip tosses are illegal but sweeps are perfectly fine.

Well the only throws I've seen(if you can call them throws) are the ones after catching a kick, or throwing out of a clinch.

you can throw from the clinch, or when you catch an incoming kick or knee via sweep.

There are some nice opportunities for throws from the clinch - if you can tie your opponent up and scoop the elbow you can make them fly, all within the ruleset. Leading the opponent and foot positioning beat brute force here.
